Yeah or it could have been just an illusion. I mean seriously with all the magic you would think he could get his way out of it. Isn't he the strongest wizard in the book? A spell like that, no matter how deadly shouldn't have killed him.

They use simacrulums in the Enchanted Forest Chronicles... in the fourth book. I think simacrulums are a somewhat popular thing to use in fantasy writing.

I never heard of simacrumlums before this, but golems (made from dirt) and dopplegangers (illusions made by energy?) I've heard of before.
