Well if I don't have a bookmark, which I most often do not, I use a piece of paper or a napkin if there's one handy. Otherwise, I just remember the page number or what was going on in the book so I can go back to it. I usually don't remember the page number, but I remember how far I was into the book and then go from there. It usually works out well.

lol, my sister thinks I'm crazy because I can lost my place in a 1000+ page book and just open it without a bookmark and keep reading. =D I prefer to have a bookmark handy though, although I use anything too. I have been getting better about dogearing actually, now that I think about it.

Yay for non-dog earred books! It's the type of memory that I have that allows me to remember the general area of where I was in a book and continue reading. Sounds like you're similar.

Yeah, kind of. My sister hates it even more when I can ask her what part she was at and open the book to that spot lol. God, my almost bibliophile love for books freaks people out sometimes. I've trained myself to read whole lines at a time so I read WAY faster than most teenagers in my grade. It's fun when I can tell them that I read the 7th Harry Potter book in about six hours lol. I miss things when I do that though, although I do get the most important parts.

I prefer bookmarks myself. My oldest daughter though can remember which page she was on without doing anything. How she does it I don't know. I'd be lost within a couple of hours.

Lol, I've tried that. I can do it if I remind myself constantly about the number, but if I only think about it I'll forget in a couple of minutes =P
I just remember about where I was in the book and then what was happening and it works. Bookmarks are preferable though..
