You know, I really don't know how I learned it all. lol. I did a lot of searching on the internet and whatnot. I would look at codes from premade layouts (there's some at createblog, for example) and see how people coded the pages. A great website is Lissa Explains it All, it's really helpful. I still go there every now and then when I'm having problems with a code. I wrote a tutorial not too long ago, here that takes a look at one of my codes and breaks it down. =) Hopefully that helps.

Mage you might also do a search on msn search for lycos webmonkey. They have tons of great tutorials too. I hand coded everything on the NW main pages and learned it all from them. But as Idril said lissa explains is great too. I've just not too long ago started looking into some of the extras she goes over, trying to come up with good ideas for the site.

Well Idril uses Wordpad and then views the results in her browser, but for some reason my computer won't let me view mine in my browser so I use an online editor that my website host offers.
If you don't mind having advertisements on your site Angelfire offers a really good free hosting package that has an online editor that lets you preview your webpage as you edit it. But I would not suggest them if you want to pay for hosting. Thier plans are too expensive.
I pay for my hosting and use hdmx. Idril uses them too for caseemarie.net but they don't have a way to preview your changes before you save them. So if I mess up I just have to go back and change it again. But that doesn't bother me much. I haven't made any really horrible errors yet. And they also have a WYSIWYG editor. It stands for What You See Is What You Get. It's set up sort of like Microsoft Word. You just type in what you want. Add the pics you want and the hyperlinks, set the background color and it writes the code for it. Then you can switch it over to html version and make changes that the WYSIWYG won't allow you to do by adding extra code, like headline tags and backgroud pics and such. But you have to learn the html code before you start doing all that.

Geocities is good too, if you're looking for a good free hosting service. They have a preview option on their html editor, but it never really worked for me. Always ate my codes. But anyway, I think Lissa has an html tester somewhere on her site, but I'm not entirely sure. Also, Mage, if the codes are overwhelming, Geocities (and I think Angelfire, too) has a "drag-and-drop" program. It basically displays your page in front of you and you can move things around and add images and stuff. I used that before I learned html. I recommed html personally, it's much more customizable, but if you don't want to get into the codes right away, that's understandable
