Well, I just saw the new Pride & Prejudice film starring Keira Knightly, and now that I am completely engrossed in Miss Austen's enchanting world, I thought I'd post a bit about it. This isn't so much of a review as it is mindless banter, I hope you don't mind. I can only discuss one film so much, and I've already sent two emails about it, so I just took this directly from my livejournal for you to read. Enjoy.

Pride & Prejudice...
It was just the most amazing movie! It just had such a wonderful feel about it. And Keira was fantastic! I have to say, I was a bit surprised with the hype she got - she was great in King Arthur, and in Pirates, of course (though there were little things, like she would be looking in the wrong direction, which she openly admitted in the commentary) but she deserved every bit of praise for this film.
It's funny, I read the book for the first time last summer, and I didn't think I'd remember it. But I do think I'll be making an annual tradition of reading it. Maybe bi-annual
I told my mother she has to watch it with me tomarrow. Though she'll probably laugh at me for loving it. It was a little rocky for me when it started because they all speak so quickly. I was just happy I remembered the events of the book so I didn't need the dialogue to know what was happening. Hah! I think the best word to describe it is "Magical". I don't know why. It just made me want to laugh - not laugh in the funny-ha-ha sort of way, but just laugh out of happiness. Strange, I know.
Elizabeth is such a wonderful character. She just lights up the setting. And Keira really brought that out. And she's absolutely adorable when she smiles. The big smile that makes her eyes squint and her cheekbones raise a mile high. She's so loveable.
A little story: according to Keira in an interview, she was originally approached about an audition and turned it down because she said she didn't want the responsibilty of the character; she thought she'd ruin the movie! And then, the director (I think it was) told her she was too pretty anyway. But then he came down to the set of, I think it was Domino, and said, "Oh, no, she'll be fine." She said, "I really didn't know how to take that!" (I'm sure everyone's heard that story, but I think it's cute)
I heard that Matthew Macfayden was not a very good Mr Darcy, mainly from reviews in the papers and Ebert&Roeper, but I thought he was perfection. Somebody said he was stiff and lacking in character, but I think it's very much the modestness of Mr Darcy. I thought he did a fantastic job. And Donald Sutherland proved himself once again, no surprise there. That man deserves some awards, people!
And the music was wonderful! It's magnificent. So fitting for the era and the story. Lovely.
All in all, one of the best times I've had watching a movie in a long, long time. Funny and lighthearted and classy and charming. I will definitely be watching this one again...tomarrow.
