I have to say both have their difficulties and their pros and cons.
I will say, personally, my traditional art is horrid. It also takes a lot of repitition to be even remotly good at it and some people just don't have the talent for it. Also, coloring may be difficult. I have a lot of respect for traditional artists because they can do something I can not do.
On the other hand, digital isn't no cake walk. Picture bases is the hardest part. Finding the pictures to manipulate, edit, colorize, ect. can be very difficult. Sometimes you have to make screen caps or take pictures yourself. Photography can be very difficult (especially if one has shaky hands, which I have). Also, resizing images and preping them for use can be very hard (I find removal of the background tedious at best and an out right nightmare at worst). The Krad image that I used for the background on the for the Krad skin, I once attempted to remove the background and colorize it so that the hair would be red, the robes black, and the eyes a mismatched blue and green, but just removing the background WITHOUT removing the hair, proved difficult.
Then you have to find the right filters, adjustments, ect. to make the image look right. Gradiants (while much easier in digital than in traditional) need to be exactly right. So many things could go wrong and one may make an irrepairable mistake (like with the Harry Potter skin I made, I attempted to remove the background and ended up having to do it all over again because I removed almost everything.).
In truth, I think it could go either way. Both are difficult methods. Both have masters and fools. I think the reason, though, that people tend to like digital artists more is because generally digital artists don't publish images that are horrible.
