Chapter 5: Dogs of the Army

“Master, Master, Where‘s the dreams that I‘ve been after?
Master, Master, You promised only lies
Laughter, Laughter, All I hear and see is laughter
Laughter, Laughter, laughing at my cries
Hell is worth all that, natural habitat
Just a rhyme without a reason
Neverending maze, drift on numbered days
Now your life is out of season
I will occupy
I will help you die
I will run you through
Now I rule you too”

Harry and Draco stayed with Maes and Roy. Roy woke up a couple hours later to find emerald green eyes staring into his.
“Ah, you’re awake,” the emerald eyed person said.
“Uhh…” Roy said very articulately.
“No need to talk,” Emerald eyes said with a smile. “You were quiet beat up, but you’re okay now.”
“Who are you?” Roy finally got out.
Emerald eyes grinned and chuckled a bit, “Name’s Harry Potter, and I along with Draco Malfoy, the sulky blond in the corner, saved you from the drunk idiot in the alley. We broke his arms afterwards,” Harry said with a bit of sadism.
“Umm…why did you save me?”
“We had nothing better to do?” Harry wasn’t really certain why they did it. It seemed out of nature for him to risk his life for two people he didn’t even know, than again, he really didn’t know what was in his nature, not remembering it.
His memories were like a fine cheese. They were there, but with so many holes punched in it they were a veritable maze of incomplete pieces harder to navigate than the canals of Mars would be. They were suburban streets missing signs with no map to point you to the correct house.
“So where are you from?” Roy asked, effectively changing topics.
“We don’t remember. We woke up in the woods with our memories twisted into knots worst than gum in hair. We knew our names and all the knowledge we had gained, just not how we gained it or for what purpose. We also had a sense that we knew each other from before, but the how was missing from the equation. All we know is that it was an alchemic reaction on my part that landed us there and that originally we weren’t from Amestris. That’s all we know,” this was all information that they talked to Maes about. He had agreed that their best bet is to find a way to restore their memories so the two alchemist agreed to join the army for the access to the research documents in hopes of finding a cure for amnesia.
“So what do you plan to do about it?”
“We decided we would join the military as alchemists and hope that we can gain enough information that one day we can untangle the web of memories. Heck, I think that some of the memories I got are his because the few memories contain a lot of blond hair,” Roy and Harry both snorted.
“Did Maes tell you why I want to join the army?”
“Yeah, he said you want to rule the country,” Harry said.
“Of course, and when I rule the country, I’ll make all women in the military where miniskirts!” Roy said flashing a peace sign.
“Even the really fat ugly ones?” Harry said with a smile.
“No, they’ll wear moomoo’s,” Harry burst out laughing.
Days later the group was heading to Central Harry, Draco, and Roy with a bit of trepidation about their test. Roy said they usually only accepted one alchemist and the test consisted of three assessments, theory, psychological/physical, and application. He also said that they drop alchemist out of the running at each assessment as well.
The group reached Central a few days before the test, Maes left the group and joined the military getting shuffled in as a second lieutenant do to the fact he wasn’t enlisting. The three alchemist knew that Maes would be gone awhile on basic training and the like, so they got a hotel room and spent the days before the test studying.
The day of the first assessment finally arrived and the three alchemist headed to the hall where the written portion was being given. The time passed and by the end of the testing period the three alchemist knew they had done well, showing knowledge in different alchemic categories. The next day they flew through the psychological part of the test. It was only the practical assessment left. All of them were nervous, but confident in their skills.
They watched as other alchemist tried to woo the military big wigs with challenging transmutations, like mountains, balloons, chimeras, tidal waves, and all manner of things. Then Draco took his turn. With a flick of his wrist a transmutation inscribed itself in the air, slamming his right hand on it he slid through a wall that one alchemist had transmuted and to the other side. Harry took his turn, also inscribing his circle in the air, he slapped it and a sickly green light erupted heading to one of the chimeras that was created (a dog/cat/lizard hybrid) killing it instantly. Than Roy stepped up and with a simple snap of his fingers the dead chimera was ash.
They received word a week later that the military choose three alchemist for the state title. Roy received the name Flame, Draco received Ghost, and Harry received Death. They were all officially dogs of the military and majors.
