Don't let M fool you, she's too nice to me. I'm a novice too, Shan; I've just been "novicing" for about five years or so. It's good that you're still keeping with the art and prioritizing. Everybody's got their special something that they're particularly good at, but it's fun to enjoy the other things too.

I love my piano with a blinding passion, almost as much - or perhaps as much - as I love my notebook and/or computer. Since forever I've always felt like the three (writing, music, painting) just went together, like neither can stand alone. Music gives you the emotions, the sounds, the beauty. Painting gives you an actual picture (if your imagination's on the fritz or something ). And writing gives you this story, this beautiful, lovely story... They all go hand in hand (in hand) with one another and can't be separated. That's why I took up art lessons. And yes, for a person with no training in the area, I've got talent. But all that means is that I can draw more than stick figures. People blow my so-called skills out of proportion just because apparently no one around here can draw more than stick figures. Anyone who can is entitled an "artist." Anyway, I'm beginning to digress here...

Hmmm, place me in the stick figure group.
I guess writing is the only way I really express myself but it is my passion and the one thing I want to do the most in the world.

*snorts* A LOT better than anything I could do. I can visualize what I want to draw perfectly, shading and everything else, but no matter how hard I try, I can't get it down on paper. I've pretty much given up on drawing.
Music and Writing are what I'm good at. The other night my family was joking about how they didn't really have any right to judge other people on their singing/music skills, and I laughed at them. I may not sing ALL that well, but I DO know how to sing, I can read music, and I understand the basics of music theory. MUAHAHAHAHAHA! xD I could even teach myself to play the piano if I wanted, I just don't have a piano to teach myself on. *shrugs*
Writing... Oh writing, how much I love it. It's something you can do with no training and no special programs, (except for high school english and a spell check program e.e Spelling kicks everyone's *ss), and you can only improve. I'm really excited to show you guys the first chapter of my original, but I still have to finish writing what I have ideas on, and THEN go back and add in a few more people's point of views that I forgot about.
But, yeah. Stick people are my forte. I'm good at them xP

konban wa I disagree. Maybe it's because I've had some pathetic teachers and some really great ones, but I don't believe that you don't need anything for writing except high school and spell check. I have friends who - yes - do have spellcheck (surprise, surprise), and they have horrible writing skills. But yet we all had the same amazing teacher in eighth grade. You need more than just that... you need to feel like your putting your whole soul into every bit of writing; you need to be able to come back and see the good parts of the writing and pick out the complete trash (and throw it away, which is what should always be done). You need to have imagination, creativity, etc. You need to love to write! You need to know what the term "Writer's Block" means... and have felt it first hand. Some of my friends - I say "Writer's Block," and they ask, "What does that mean that you can't think of anything to write?"
I remember the first time I got Writer's Block -- didn't know what to call it. I was in my grandparents' house one Saturday night, writing on the computer... or trying to. More like drumming my fingers against the keyboard, staring at a blank screen (or glaring at it). I got so frustrated that, in tears, I called my dad and cried, "I can't write!"
He said, "What do you mean? Of course you can write; you're an excellent writer."
I replied, "No, that's not what I mean. I mean I can't think of anything to write! At all!" And then I burst into tears, no joke. He explained the term "Writer's Block," and gave me a few tips and calmed me down. But clearly, I never forgot the experience.

*nods* This is true. I think I didn't make myself clear enough xD I mean that people shouldn't seriously think about publishing something until they can make what they've written readable. I have friends who have big dreams of publishing books, and they write in their notebooks all the time, but they should be allowed anywhere near Microsoft Word, because their spelling and grammar suck.
Writer's Block... *shudders* I've never felt it full force, but I have gotten mild doses of it occasionally. I'm hoping that I never hit that point, to be honest, but I know I will eventually.
*re-reads* I'm not getting my point across that well... Let's try again.
I think people should write as much as possible, because it's an awesome creative outlet. I just think that too many people get a first draft down on paper and then decide to publish it on fan fiction or on fictionpress and then get discouraged, or even angry, when people tell them that they need longer chapters, that they need better grammar, that they need better spelling, etc.
It almost happened to me, (the first fic I ever published on FF.net doesn't exist anymore, I deleted it from every possible thing I have the power to delete from), but I managed to realize that it was constructive criticism; a lot of people take CC as a personal attack.

konban wa Oh, Neen, you should never delete from your computer at the very least. I still have the very first fanfic I ever wrote, even if it is complete crap. I wrote in in the script way, and I haven't done that since then. I hate writing like that; doesn't feel enough like a story! But I still have it anyway. *shrug* Count your blessings that you've never felt the full brunt of Writer's Block because it is painful.A few months ago I had such a horrible Writer's Block that I just couldn't shake. Not only could I not write for Charmed or stories, but I also couldn't write my poems -- usually, with me, it's either one or the other; but this time it was both. For at least a month, every single time I say down to write, the sole thought that would invade my mind was: pickle. Random, I know. When I tried to write a poem... "Pickle." I asked for suggestions and tips and finally got one from my dad: If you're thinking about pickles, write about a pickle. I thought he was insane and still do. But... well, there comes a time in Writer's Block where you are desperate and will try absolutely any suggestion. So what did I do? I wrote a poem about a pickle, a pathetic one I might add. And, naturally, the Writer's Block vanished -- in God's twisted version of what I would call sarcasm.
