You know, now that there are people around here that like country music I'm beginning to find myself listening to it more and more. Well then again I am obsessing over a Western tv show, so that might have a little to do with it. The two subjects sort of go hand and hand.

I know, I just can't stand most of it...especially the kind where the singer is crying about his girlfriend left him and his tractor died...no wonder his girlfriend left him...

Ouch, Anime, not all country songs are like that. Well yeah alot are. But some have some serious meaning to them and some are just downright funny.
I'd say that we'd try to educate you on the finer points of country music but I'm afraid it would be fought at every turn. And since I do know your taste in music I don't know if you'd ever be able to listen to someone like Tim McGraw and actually like him. Maybe Montgomery Gentry. They like to get loud at times.

I can count on one hand the number of country songs that I actually like: "I Hope You Dance" by LeAnn Walmak (or however her name is spelt) my mom made me listen to that when I was going through some rough times and it kept me from going over the edge, "American Pie" by Don McLean (he's one of the few country singers I actually like), "Vincent" by Don McLean, and that's about all I can think of at the moment. If I hear a song on the radio and I like it, I don't really care about the genre, it's just that country happens to remind me of a certain person, the only person I can honestly say I hate to the point where I wish things I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy onto. So you can see why I perfer not to listen to it. I get into my anti-social moods and go into a bit of depression when I have too many reminders of that person all at once. Right now, I'm actually in a good mood, so no reminders, please.

I only know one song involving a dang tractor, and they most certainly are not crying over it. Country songs have so much more meaning than most pop songs I know (I won't touch rock because I'm equally passionate about that). Songs like "Fancy" and "What Do You Say" by Reba McEntire are so personal and so real. "Check Yes or No" by George Strait. "Don't Take the Girl" by Tim McGraw (no, it's not really as simple as a girlfriend leaving him). There are so many songs that have such incredible stories along with them. Although I'll let you one, Anime, because country has always had that image of being real hick music. And most of the artists like that - songs like George Strait's "All My Ex's Live in Texas" and Joe Diffie's "Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox (If I Die)". They're all cliche country music, and people who hear it for the first time will probably detest it, it's understandable. But I grew up on that, so it's not a matter of disecting a song and discovering it's flaws. It's a memory, it's a treasure. It's one of those rare keepsakes we get to have forever. To me the memories that tie to those songs, whatever they are, are more important than general good taste. Anyway. That's my personal opinion, nothing more. Everyone's entitled to their own

Due to the fact that we have gone way off subject here and some of us really want to discuss the subject I'm gonna start a Country Music thread in the Music section. That way anyone who really doesn't want to hear it can just ignore the thread.
