I remembered another one that's not already rec'ed (and I don't know why)
Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (detective mystery) If anyone has not heard of Sherlock Holmes I want to know what rock they've been under for the past hundered years (or just about that long). We get enough so many of our slang phrases from this series like "No sh*t, Sherlock," for someone who pointed out the obvious. Sherlock Holmes is close to the pioneer of detective stories all from his apartment on Baker Street that he shares with a crippled medical vetern named Dr. Watson. There's no case Sherlock can't solve with his amazing bank of knowledge about blood stains, men's strides vs. height, and cigar ash. Plus they don't have to be read in any particular order, though personally I recommend The Hound of the Baskervilles (or is it Hounds?) as a really good one.
