I thought maybe a roleplay section would be fun. The style I was involved in was referred to as "pen and paper" roleplaying. It was terribly entertaining, and it helped me to develop my skills as a prose writer, especially in the areas of vocabulary and in describing things. You also get to engage in a kind of group story, which is fun and educational, and it can be left for awhile and then picked up again. Of course, there is the danger of it becoming violent, sexually graphic, and people developing personal vendettas against other members. It would require committed mods and such, especially when the forum expands...*yawn* sleep deprivation... -Elizabeth PS: Sorry for being truant around here, I've had so much homework!!! I really want to be involved, I promise

This sounds very interesting envision. And I wouldn't mind setting the section up, but can you tell me a little more about it. I don't really have much experience with roleplaying. Would the roleplaying be completely original, or based upon fiction? Stuff like that. That way I know what kind of subcategories to set up.

Roleplaying can be based on anything - both original and fiction. Even a combination of the two (i.e., you could play a random wizard at Hogwarts that doesn't even come into the books). I like original, usually. Subcategories would be a challenge. In my experience t'was mostly a fantasy realm that was already established, so any subcategory would be like a different "region" of the realm. It could get very complicated...

I've never done on-line roleplaying before, so bear with me. I'm not quite sure how it works. I'm just guessing, but would it work sort of like the old dungeons and dragons game? One person starts it, laying out the rules and original story line and then those wanting to participate would make replys as to what their characters would do in the situation. And then they just take turns adding to the story. Is that close?

you've pretty much got it right. The rules are more generally agreed on for all situations beforehand though, no "god"/power play (your character can't be all powerful nor can you control another persons character).

I'm willing to try it, if you'll help me say with a set of rules and instructions on how to play, that way newbies like me will understand too. I'll of course have to beg for more moderators for the section. And then we can go from there. What do you say?

I think the roleplay thing is something to put on a waiting list; with the starting of contests, etc. it should take a secondary role to the solo writing that this site is so good at focusing on. It might be fun to do in the summertime when youngsters like me are freed from school? Just my opinion, but I shall be willing to help whenever you want to start it ;D
