Chapter 1 Part 3
"Wake up!" A rough boot to the rib was not Avella's idea of a great wake up call.
She grunted and her eyes fluttered open slowly. The sun had set hours ago, and the stars shone brightly. Two of the four various moons of her world lit up the landscape brilliantly.
Avella didn't need to see the group of warriors sitting around a blazing fire to know that she had been taken prisoner. Her wrists were chaffed and bound tightly behind her back, and she could feel a large swelling on the back of her skull where she had been struck.
Her breath stuck in her throat as she was struck again by the boot. Avella glared at the man that had struck her not once- but twice. She loathed these soldiers greatly. Dried blood cracked as her eyebrows furrowed angrily.
The next time his boot came in to strike she twisted her body around awkwardly and thrust her foot into the front of his knee. There was a satisfying crack, and the man's face screwed up in shock before the pain registered and he fell backward.
Avella pulled herself upright and glanced at him coolly. "You would do well to release me." Her voice cracked in several places as she spoke, and her throat felt as though it were on fire.
"S-second lieutenant!" The injured man called, gazing at his comrades and silently pleading for the pain in his leg to end.
"You dissappoint me." The second lieutenant- Gauro, stepped away from the fire and to his comrade's side.
He drew a sword and the man on the ground cowered, "Second lieu-"
He was never able to finish his sentence as Gauro thrust his sword over the man's body, beheading him with little difficulty, "Hesheyer was always weak." He turned back to his comrades and took his seat on a large stone.
Avella bit her lip and pulled herself away from the corpse as a dark liquid began to expand across the shadowed ground. In the moonlight it almost looked black, but Avella knew the true color. Red. Blood.
Both her sword and bow were gone, and Avella cursed silently for having allowed herself to be captured so easily. The night passed slowly for Avella as a headache began to form again, creeping slowly through her skull until there wasn't a place that didn't hurt.
At dawn she was pulled to her feet and forced to walk between the men- two flanked her, and the rest split up so that half were behind and half were before her. Several times she felt the bite of a prodding sword in her backside, telling her to pick up her weary pace.
Gauro took pleasure in her plight, and more often than not she found that the prodding sword was his own. Avella was glad when they stopped for the evening- though fear clenched her heart as she saw several fires glowing distantly. They were getting closer to Gauro's goal, to Michael's father... the man that these soldiers were so very loyal to.
She was given a small chunk of bread and an even smaller portion of water as supper- the only meal that she had had in nearly two days. Avella hungrily consumed the bread and water before laying down on her side, curling up as the evening air grew chilly. She fell into an exhausted sleep shortly after.
A/N: This... should be the end of this rather... prolonged chapter... Chapter two is... still in my head to be honest. I wonder how long this is going to be... in any case, thanks for the support everyone, your positive feedback really helps ;D
All in all this chapter is 6 pages long, not my longest, but still a decently sized chapter I thought that breaking it up into smaller parts would make it easier to read.
