I know what you mean. I'll sometimes spend too much time dwelling on a sentence I liked and wanted to remember, and then I miss a lot of shots. It's a lot like the first one in the sense that you need to see it a few times before you really get it all. Heh, when I saw the first one I was on AOL (which has since been keel hauled, happily) and I spent 24/7 on the POTC board with a lovely group of women who were really interested in everything the movie offered (ie not just Johnny, lol). We had rambling session after rambling session and figured everything out together. Twas amazing fun.

I have a feeling you and I and maybe a few others around here will be spending quite some time doing that also. Oh that reminds me my husband explained the dice game to me. He went and saw the movie out on the road yesterday.
Let's see if I can explain it the way he did. Each man rolls his dice and then takes a look at them. The first man guesses how many of a certain number is on the table including his fellow players. Bill had the first guess.
Then the second man guesses. Davy guessed second.
Then the third. Will guessed going by what Davy and Bill had already guessed plus what was in his hand.
Then the first man gets to change his guess if he wishes after hearing the others. Bill changed his to an outrageous number to assure that he guessed the worst.
Only the worst guesser looses what he bet. So Bill lost all of eternity on the dutchman so Will would not have to stay on the ship for the 100 years that he bet.
Will just wanted to know where the key was hidden though.
Does that make sense?

I see. That's kinda what I figured. Man, I wonder how long it'll take somebody to type up a transcript. I haven't found one yet, but I did fine caps from the entire movie so huzzah Ah, one question. What if Will was wrong and Davy won? It wouldn't have done Bill any good then would it? But I suppose if he's definitely wrong, it gives Will a better chance of being right I suppose. I guess I get it now. lol. The other thing that I need to pay more attention to is the compass. I understand it points to "what you want", but why did Elizabeth have to be holding it? Jack couldn't get it to work until he handed it to Elizabeth and he said (after pulling a total Willy Wonka move and running away, coming up slowly) "We have our heading!" I was confused. lol They also never revealed the fate of Governor Swann. Last we see him is in shackles, yaknow?

As far as I can tell only the one who bet the worst lost what they bet. So both Davy and Will won. Bill just wanted to make sure that he lost so Will wouldn't. And Will just wanted to know where the key was so it didn't matter to him whether he won or lost.
I believe Jack's confusion over what he truly wanted kept getting in the way of the compass working correctly. You have to imagine there were lots of different things that he wanted.
He wanted the key, which Jones had. He wanted the chest which was on an island. He wanted to stay out of the sea because of the Kraken. But he loved the sea and hated to be away from it. And some part of me has to hold onto the hope that just maybe he felt guilty about leaving Will on the Dutchman. (Okay it's just a faint hope, but hope still.)
So he had to find someone who could keep the compass on one course. Finding the chest. So he picked Liz.

Now that makes perfect sense, thank you!
The compass situation is an odd one. There's an idea that maybe he wants Elizabeth and that's why when she was sitting on the chest, the compass finally stopped. He wanted the chest and Elizabeth, and they were both finally in the same place. Don't know if I like that idea, but it's a theory.

Hmm, I'm not much on that theory either. But then again a man can lust after a woman and not love her.

That's true. But I still hope that's not what it was all about. I really think the compass would point to rum before Elizabeth, personally
