Chapter 2: Anime and Raven

Anime pulled a cell phone out of her purse as she exited headquarters quickly. She had two phone calls to make before she reached the airport. The phone rang and rang before picking up, “Raven Dust,” she said.
“Anime? What time is it?” a shuffling noise could be heard as the person on the other end looked for her clock.
“Raven, listen, get your stuff packed, we have a mission,” she said as she hopped into her car, a Honda Civic with a peeling black paint job.
“Where to?”
“Florida,” she said as she pulled out of the parking lot. She had only just got to Washington and hadn’t even unpacked the car or checked into a hotel, so she was prepared for the traveling.
“Fine, I’ll be ready when you get here,” the connection ended and Anime quickly dialed another number without taking her eyes off the road.
She quickly got two tickets on the next flight to Miami, which would leave in a half hour. Using her priority clearance from headquarters she bumped two passengers for seats, two politicians. She pulled up to an apartment complex and honked the horn once. A few minutes later and a woman came running out.
Raven dust was a Caucasian woman with black hair and deep blue eyes. She was dressed in a comfortable pair of blue jeans and black, sarcastic t-shirt making her appear more like the collage student she posed as. In reality she was Anime’s partner, due to become a full agent in July. She was younger than her counter part by a few months, though with a look you couldn’t tell who was the younger or the older as Raven’s looks were more conservative.
Anime, on the other hand, was too noticeable. When she had started at the academy everyone said she wouldn’t be cut out for spy work. She had long flaming red hair that she kept up in a ponytail and mismatched eyes (her right eye was blue and her left eye was green). To tell the truth, though, it was the reason she was so good.
No one would think that any spy organization would send out someone so noticeable to be a spy. Plus, she was d**n good at changing her appearance. Once she had gone from a red head to a brunette with only a turn of a corner, changing her shirt and eye color at the same time.
“Why are we going to Florida?” Raven said putting her bags in next to Anime’s.
“Domestic terror group, kind of a gang, but not opposed to taking hostages and mass destruction,” she said as she got on the Beltway to get to the airport quicker.
“You should have taken the streets, the Beltway is a nightmare with construction.”
Anime quickly got off at the next exit and gunned it through a yellow light. She had to get to the airport in twenty minutes, it may mean making a new record. Luckily, the airport wasn’t that far from Raven’s. Anime made it in fifteen minutes, leaving the car in a tow zone, she’d had to pick it up from in pound before.
Raven followed her friend, dragging her own luggage as Anime did the same, to the US Airways counter. Anime said, “Tickets for Debra White and Diana Gooding.” It was two of their false ideas, they used them often for domestic air travel. The tickets were handed to Anime after an ID check and the two rushed off to the gate, zigzagging through the tourists, politicians, and other people.
They reached the gate and were quickly on the airplane. Only moments after they reached it did the plane leave taking off into the sky heading South, non-stop, to Miami, Florida.
Anime ate a snack, she’d need to eat when they reach Miami, not having eaten anything since breakfast and two hurried to grab anything before they left.
“So why the rush, normally we have a day,” Raven said.
“Family,” she said. It was the one answer Raven would accept without question. Anime quickly opened her laptop and accessed her files looking for more information.
“You got mail,” people turned to look at her as her AOL told her she had mail. She glared at the lap top before pulling out her headphones and using them. It was a good thing she did as a video file came up on the screen.
A shot of her brother’s school, her brother’s teacher, her brother. She glared at the screen as a woman’s voice told what was happening, and what their demands were. A bomb was shown. Her eyes widened. As soon as it was over she handed Raven the headphones and showed her the file while quickly copying it to a disk.
As she copied the file seemed to eat itself, destroying it. Raven looked at her partner, “Did you get that?” Anime wasn’t looking at Raven, but at the computer. A few seconds later she nodded.
“Word for bloody word.”
Raven checked her watch, “It’s 1 PM now, are we going to make it?”
“Yes, we are,” a determined glint was seen in her eyes, causing Raven to draw back.
“I hope so,” she whispered to herself as Anime went back to analyzing the video.
