Well, I thought this might be fun. I'm always up for finding new music, and definitely always up for turning others onto what I'm listening to. (Whether you like it or not - you can run, but you cannot hide from the indie! Muaha...) Ahem. Anyway. If you're not sure what you want to listen to, or if you're just feeling like you want something new, comment here! Tell us what you like, what you don't like, what you're in the mood for - whatever. And I'm sure somebody will read your post and think "Oh! That person would like ---- !!" Now then. Anna Christie was asking for, "some calm, acoustic...pretty, meaningful songs". If anybody has any suggestions, speak up My suggestions to you, Anna, would probably be the following: Vienna Teng (thanks to Ri for getting me hooked on her!) Damien Rice Barbie Almalbis (particularly "Sorry Song") Iron & Wine Loquat (they're kind of hard to find) Cat Power Charolette Martin Emmy Rossum (her cd isn't out yet, but you can hear snippets on her MySpace) Duncan Sheik Aimee Mann Dar Williams Dirty Martini Anna Nalick (you probably already know her, she's pretty popular) Belle & Sebastian Ben Jelen Copeland (they do a cover of "Take My Breath Away", it's gorgeous) Dolores O'Riordan Zero 7 And have you ever looked into string quartet tributes? I have some to Evanescence, Death Cab for Cutie and some other random songs that are pretty good.

Well if Anna is looking for something "calm, acoustic...pretty, meaningful songs" I suggest: - "I Don't Want To Miss a Thing" by Aerosmith (you've probably heard it, it was in Armageddon)
- "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" by Blue Oyster Cult (one of those great bands that often get ignored...they use a cow bell)
- "Nobody But You" by BoA (It's in Korean, but it's very beautiful)
- "The World I Know" by Collective Soul (Yay for '90s pop music)
- "One Last Breath" by Creed (Are they Christian Rock or are they not, that is the question)
- "Have You Seen the Rain?" by Creedence Clearwater Revival (another great band that you've may have heard if you listen to Classic Rock, there about as close to country as I'll listen. They've definetly have a more southern sound...especially in "Fortunate Son")
- "Land of Confusion" There are several covers of this song, the original is by Genesis, I believe, I have a more heavy rock version by Disturbed
- Elton John ("Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me", "Daniel", "Levon", "Tiny Dancer", "Candle in the Wind", "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", and "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" are some of my personal favorites)
- "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac (this is the ORIGINAL version of the song, it's got a cover by at least Smashing Pumpkins and Dixie Chicks)
- "How to Save a Life" by The Fray
- "Home By the Sea" by Genesis
- "Invisible Touch" by Genesis
- Goo Goo Dolls have a lot of great accoustic versions of their songs (I suggest contacting Ri, she's our resident expert on them. I like the accoustic versions of "Iris" and "Slide" especially)
- "Wake Me Up When September Ends" by Green Day
- "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" Green Day
- Kansas is a really good band that is REALLY ignored, you've probably heard "Dust in the Wind" on a car commercial in the last year, but "The Wall" is a really good song, "Point of Know Return", and "The Closet Chronicles" are all really good
- "Letters From War" by Mark Shultz
- Pink Floyd is one of my favortie bands, so I'm partial, but try "Brain Damage", "Comfortably Numb" and "Another Brick in the Wall, Pt. 1", "--, Pt.2", and "--, Pt. 3"
- "Under the Bridge" by Red Hot Chili Peppers
- "Bad Day" by Daniel Powter
- "Closing Time" by Semisonic (it may be about a bar closing, but I see a deeper meaning behind the lyrics)
- "45" by Shinedown
- "This is War" by Smile Empty Soul
- Styx is another really great band try "Come Sail Away" and "Fooling Yourself (The Angry Young Man)" they're not really accoustic, and are one of the better Synth rock bands, but I swear they use accoustic guitars
- Train is a pretty good band, if I remember right, only song I have by them is "Meet Virgina" but I need to get a copy of "Jupiter" (I think that's the name of the song)
- Vic Mignogna has some really great music (he's not only the english voice actor of Ed Elric of Fullmetal Alchemist or Dark of DNAngel, he's a muscian, too). "Far From Home" and "Nothing I Won't Give" are really good (again, I suggest contacting Ri about his music)
Now if you're looking for musical suggestions other than accoustic, here's some bands I suggest looking into (if you want to know a specific song to listen too, ask, I'll give suggestions): - Gackt--One of J-Rocks most famous. He's a legend in Japanese rock music.
- Styx--Probably the best Synth Rock band ever (at least in English)
- David Bowie--Glamor Rock (I think is what he should be classified in) with a synth twist. He's been around since the 1960s and has had a music career that has last into the '80s at least.
- Gravitation--If you are looking for good anime music, you need to listen to the music from Gravitation. Gravi may be a gay love story on one edge, but even if you're not into it, the music is still worth listening to. Synthizer + Random Engrish in Japanese songs.
- Green Day--Probably a bunch of sell outs, but I don't care whether an artist "Sells Out" if I still like their music, and I like Green Day. A lot of "emo" stuff, but don't let that distract you
- Nobuo Uematsu--the legend of game music. He's well known for most of the music of the Final Fantasy series. I suggest "One Winged Angel" aka "Sephiroth's Theme" from FFVII, "Turk's Theme" from FFVII, "Liberi Fatali" from FFVIII, and "Zanarkand" from FFX
- Kansas--one of those little known bands, they're music is simply awesome
- BoA--if you're looking for Korean music, she's got some really great music and a really great voice. K-Pop
- 30 Seconds to Mars--emo/punk rock, they're pretty good (I suggest contacting Ri for more, she's obsessed with them probably as much as the Goo Goo Dolls)
- Disturbed--Heavy Rock, not really Heavy Metal (I don't think...close, though).
- Creedance Clearwater Revival--for the country listener who wants to start listening to rock music, they're a good place to start.
- Utada Hikaru--If you want a taste of her music, I suggest Kingdom Hearts. "Simple and Clean" and "My Sanctuary", the english themes, are by her (she also does the Japanese themes)
- Collective Soul--'90s pop at it's best, I say.

Thank you, three! I shall look into some of those! I've heard quite a few of them already and they are beautiful!! Such as Letters From War, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Good Riddance (Time of Your Life), Levon, How to Save a Life and Anna Nalick's "Breath (2AM)" is one of my favorite songs of all time. Anyway, thanks for all the great suggestions! When I get some I'll let y'all know what I think! Oh, and about Kansas, Anime, I LOVE them so much! I only wish they were more well known! They are amazing!
I suggest "Nights In White Satin, Tuesday Afternoon and Your Wildest Dreams" all by The Moody Blues as nice, peaceful songs in case anyone cares! lol! I shall shut up now, thanks again!
Idril, what are "string quartet tributes?" Thanks!

Yay Anna Nalick! I absolutely adore her. The acoustic and demo songs from the Wreck of the Day expanded re-release are amazing, too. I saw her in concert! (One of the few people I can say that about, so I'm excited...)
Anywho, Anna, I sent you some songs - hopefully you got those - and String Quartet tributes are literally a string quartet (two violins, a cello and a viola, I think) that perform classical versions of rock band songs. They devote each album to a certain band. There are tributes to everybody, really. I have them for Elliott Smith, Evanescence, Death Cab for Cutie, and then a few songs from the U2, No Doubt, Switchfoot and Fort Minor albums. And I have a piano tribute to Evanescence - Ark Sano, I believe. Very good ;D

Well I found the ones I have online, Anna, but you can probably find them at music stores. Just ask the salesperson for string quartet tributes. Actually, here's a list of some of them at Barnes & Noble.
