Quite frankly, things like this confuse my species greatly. We're solitary by nature, needing large amounts of land to sustain a single one of us. But injuring a child... well it's something that happens. One of my own siblings had his hind quarters broken when our dam put her tail down on him by mistake.
If the child didn't die, and there was no reason to believe the man wanted to hurt the child, well, I can't understand what the fuss was all about.
And the poor man doing the right thing was killed for it? It makes no sense to me or my kind. But perhaps that's just because we were the predators and not the prey where we come from.

On a similar note, people in the human race are generally untrusting of the motives of others, including those in their own species.
Despite their technological prowess, humanity is cursed with a lack on natural defense besides their technology. It's their right to be weary, cunning beasts have often preyed upon them.

Well being wary of your own kind is natural when you're at the top of the food chain. I mean, I wouldn't want any old drake hunting my land. How do I know what he'd do?
We are technologically advanced, the fact we've traveled worlds to colonize and explore proves that, but we tend not to use our technology unless it's needed. It makes us fat and lazy, and we despise those traits among our kind.

Thats interesting because the last dragon I fought was REALLY fat and REALLY lazy. Or... was that my uncle?
Whatever, the bottom line is whether there are good humans out there or not its pretty obvious that the ones involved here killed a good person for doing the right thing.
