*snort* Well, I've had health classes that would teach us about it, but they never taught us about protection and how to prevent pregnacy. They taught us all the bad, but none of the good. They used scare tactics, that I only now recognize as such.
As for AC/DC, you are so unlucky, Riona, I grew up on AC/DC, Metalica, Pink Floyd, and all those other "Classic Rock" bands. I swear my mother had them in the delivery room.

it's really scary when u hear 10 year olds talking about boyfriends though. i mean i understand that they try and educate us early to prevent teen pregnancy but yeah, my students came to me after they had a session about puberty .....it was very interesting *frowns* i just dont understand what they try to do with the education wirrawong

You're a teacher, Wir?
I remember my only year in a public school was 6th grade...we had a health class. Of course, it wasn't horribly detailed, as we were young...ish. Some were old enough to be 9th graders. That goes to say that a lot of them knew a lot about the human anatomy and the health classes.
Anyhow.

They never gave any details. The most details we ever got was in tenth grade when they had a health department offical come and give us a picture slide show of the worst effects of STDs, not pretty, half the class was fighting to keep lunch down (luckily it was the last class of the day). I still remember it. I can tell, looking back, that what it was was a scare tatic. They were saying, if you have s*x, this is what will happen. I know now that one does not get Syphilis, normally, from having s*x once (though it is possible, especially if that once is with a prostatute).

Yeah, they try to scare kids into not having s*x. I mean, what are they gonna think when they get married?! "I'm sorry, honey, but I can't sleep with you. I'll get an STD and die." Yeah freaking right! I think that they should just let you know the risks of unsafe s*x (Jeez, that sounds so stupid...unsafe s*x), then let you make your own decisions. I mean, I probably mentioned this on another board, but my brother is 18, and his girlfriend is 16. The probability rate that they are having s*x is really high, and my mom knows he's bought condoms in the past. He's taken health classes all his school life, almost. You can tell them and tell them all you want that "You will get sick with an STD and DIE if you have s*x," but unless they really make a decision for themselves, they can either save the world or break it.
Yeah, feeling philosophical/ranty tonight.

I'm actually TIRED of hearing about all this at school. My town just has a high rate of just about anything you can think of. MAKE THE MADNESS STOP!!

Really this is the message they should give: I don't want you to have s*x, but I know that teenage hormones almost gurantee you will, here's a condom and if you don't use it you'll get sick and die...that sounds a bit better than their, abstince is the only option b*llsh*t. EDIT: Found a new word, M
