Hey all-
I've been seriously thinking about joining the Peace Corps. What's your take on that, and do you know where I can get more information?
Thanks,
Virginia

Honestly hon, that is one of those things that I always wished I had done. That or FEMA or the Red Cross. Just anything where I could help people in need, but alas I didn't think that way when I was younger.
So I say if you are seriously interested, go for it. As far as information, I'm not sure, but I'm guessing you could find several websites if you did a search on Yahoo or Google.

That sounds good, if it's something you want to do. Like M says, google or yahoo search for Peace Corps or something similar and find the information.

Yah. See, here's my dilemma. I really want to go to Swarthmore for undergrad, then Oxford in England for Grad. When would I be in the Peace Corps? Between? After both? And then, if I decide to go to law school, would I be in the Peace Corps before or after? I have thought about taking a year off between high school and college, but the problem is, I won't be eighteen yet, and to really do anything, I have to be eighteen. Also, the peace corps focuses alot on medicine, and I'm a Christian Scientist, and we believe in healing through prayer, and not through material means.
So you can imagine I'm confused. Any ideas?

Honestly, it all depends on what means more to you. Your faith or helping people better thier lives. Then again you might check with the Christian Science national headquarters (I think I heard it was in Nevada but I'm not sure) and see if they have thier own humanitarian program. There might be something that you can do that would serve both your faith and your wish to help others.
Now as far as when to go, I can see that as something to do before college, but your folks might not agree with that thought. I'm not sure. Parents are different in thier wishes for thier kids.

Do it before grad school, but after getting your Bachelors. That's what I think.
And yeah, go with M's suggestion and contact your religion's national head quaters. They may have missioning or something that you can do.

I've been thinking along the same lines, and my advisor at school said after you get your bachelors and before Grad school, if you're planning on Grad school. But if you're going for technology or nursing or something that changes rapidly make sure your using that in the Core cause otherwise when you try to get a job you'll be behind in the technology.
