Figured I'd start this thread since nobody else has Feel free to discuss the 2008 Presidential Candidates. If you could vote (we have lots of young members aboard), who would you choose and why? What issues are you passionate about the most, and again, why? Which candidate do you believe has what it takes to lead the United States? There's an interesting quiz that shows you which candidate agrees with you most on the issues: Washington Post: Choose Your Candidate. And another at gotoquiz.com. Surprisingly enough, the candidate whose stance on the issues is supposedly most like my own, is Barack Obama. Second was John Edwards, and then Hillary Clinton. Obviously, you don't want to make the decision of who you're backing by a simple quiz; it's important to read up on everyone's views with an open mind. But it's interesting all the same, I thought.

I think this is interesting. I'm glad you started this thread. People should be free to speak up here, but remember, be respectful of other's opinions. Okay, a question for all of you. How do you feel about Hillary Clinton?

I agree with a lot of Hillary's main issues. I had to get past her cold physiognomy, which I found myself a bit put off by. I was initially all for Obama, but find myself swaying toward her more recently. I also looked back to the work she did while she was First Lady, under her husbands administration. Do first ladies get a paycheck??? If not she put in a lot of work for zero dollars. I have voted in every Presidential Election since becoming eligible and this is the first time that I feel I will be really passionate about a candidate. Hooray!!!

Right now I'm not sure either- initially I was also inclined to Barack Obama, and put off by Hilary (and still am to some extent), but I think she has some good policies as well as experience. She certainly would be no worse that George W. Bush (sorry if any of you out there like him- I am of the opinion that he is a good man but bad president) and would be, I think, better indeed than some of our more 'historic' presidents. However, I feel like Obama is a good candidate as well, but I'm not sure if he could win the general election against McCain. Maybe against Huckabee though... I'm not sure.
Speaking about Huckabee... do you think he has any chance whatsoever?

He could possibly force a brokered convention if McCain doesn't get enough delegates to make sure of the nomination. So... McCain and Obama won Virginia and Maryland... seems as if Obama has a lead on Hillary now. And to think that a year ago we thought he had no chance! Right now we're watching West Wing (a show about the presidential white house and government) and in between episodes my brother and I are checking out the election coverage. It's quite amusing... we are living and breathing this election. I can't stop talking about it- whenever my sis walks in to my room and says something like "he/she quit", I automatically assume it has something to do with the primaries. Which of course, it doesn't, but that example just shows how consumed we are with it right now. All the best, Virginia
