A brief history of the Imperium
The warp storms around Terra prevented its occupants from leaving the planet for a thousand years, but after a cataclysmic accident induced by the eldar (which will be explained later on) the warp storms dissipated and mankind burst worth into the galaxy.
Under the wing of the god Emperor, they spread rapidly, but it soon became clear that the normal men and women couldn’t defeat every civilisation already settled alone, the task was just too momentous. To this end twenty clones were created, each a copy of the Emporer himself.
There was an accident and the clones were lost, but as the Imperium’s size expanded, they were gradually recovered. They were super-human, beings of at least eight feet tall, each able to crush the super metal adamantium in their fists, I shall cover the most famous later. They were the primarchs.
From these were created more clones, which became known as the astartes. With the help of these warriors, the galaxy was taken in under a hundred years. The crusade ended when the imperium met with the largest cosmic anomaly yet recorded. The Eye of Terror.
A chapter will be dedicated to the true power of the Eye, but it has effects which become relevant now. For it turned fully half of the astartes to the powers of chaos, resulting in a huge war which the Emporer nearly died trying to stop.
After a massive battle with the strongest of the primarchs, Horus, the emporer slew the great traitor and cast the others back into the warp. He was mortally wounded by the fight, and forecast to die within days. With the imperium already teetering on the knife edge of another civil war, it was decided that the Emperor must survive, whatever the cost.
He was sealed within a great pyramid a thousand miles across, attached to the largest life support system known to man, called the golden throne. He sits there still, in the forty first millennium, gathering his strength.
