Now for the story:
Outdone…For a Moment
As Lily walked the Heads Room, her thoughts were only of him.
He had changed so much in the space of so little time. While he used to an arrogant toe rag, he was now her most trusted friend.
When and where had that changed? And why had it taken her so long to realize that she, Lily Evans was in love this James Potter, the arrogant, the annoying, the tall, handsome, smart- Ok, Lily, This is Potter we’re talking about. Well I still love him! Shut up!
It must have been gradually; there was no other way… that love she now felt must have been there deep inside her heart all along. Her mother had once told her that ‘hate is only love that has missed its mark’ Lily laughed. That certainly was true in this situation.
Friendship. How and where had that happened? That must have been gradual too. Hating James had been her life before, that is, until they had been in detention together in the Forbidden Forest; James for charming the suits of armor to chop at passing Slytherins, and Lily, for breaking James’ arm when he tried to protect her from ‘Snivellus’, actually the one and only Severus Snape.
They had had to become friends, There was no other was to survive the detention Bellatrix Black had given them. The dementors were fierce, and the Dark Lord was on the prowl. They had had to work together.
But what do I do now? Lily asked herself. James has stopped asking me out! I’ve lost my chance! It will never happen! Lily’s mind practically shrieked. I’m going to have to tell him sometime, she decided, opening the door to the head’s room, I can’t keep hiding this forever… Alice and Marlene already know… they’ll tell Sirius and Frank and then where will I be?
Lily collapsed on the couch. Her last thought before she nodded off was I’ll have to tell him the next time I see him.
James Potter groaned under the weight of too many books. It seemed as if he shouldn’t be carrying them around, seeing as all the final exams were over, but these books were for his auror training.
He came to the Head’s common room door and stepped in giving the password ‘Moldy Butterdeer’ Dumbledore sure had a funny sense of humor he thought.
He stopped when he came to the couch. There was Lily. She looked so peaceful, lying there. He leaned over and kissed her forehead.
Lily chose this moment of all moments to open her eyes and wake up. When she saw James’ face inches from hers, she couldn’t help it, and pulled him down on top of her and kissed him hungrily. He was surprised for a moment, then his kiss matched hers in passion. She responded with an even more passionate kiss, and he with one even more. There was so much passion flying around that Lily gave up.
“Admit it.” he said “You’re outdone.”
“For a moment.” Lily laughed and pulled him back down for an even more passionate kiss.
