Ten Little Wutaians

Rated PG-13
Diclaimer: I do not own any of it.
Summary: The children of Midgar are always singing.
In Midgar, there was a song that children sang. It was a happy, upbeat song with seemingly innocent lyrics, but if you looked underneath the underneath it held a truly disturbing meaning.
Ten little Wutaians,
Standing in a line.
One stood looking at another man's wife,
Then there were nine.
They would sing and sing blissfully unaware of what was going on behind the lyrics.
“Godo Kisaragi!” a woman yelled. She tripped and fell, ripping her silk kimono on the flagstone steps. The man, Godo, ran to help her up. “No! Get away from me you monster!” She yelled.
A young girl stood in the background crying. “Okaa-chan! Otou-chan! Stop fighting! You said we were all going to go to Mideel for a few days!” the girl cried over Godo and the woman’s yelling.
“Godo you disgusting piece of filth! I can’t believe I married you! What kind of ruler cheats on his wife?” the woman screamed.
Godo hung his head in shame and looked away. “I am truly sorry Mahiru, but Shirogane was… Shirogane is… the woman I love.”
Mahiru picked herself up off the ground and gave him a sharp look. “I hope you and this Shirogane woman are happy together. Goodbye, Godo.” She started walking away. “Come Yuffie,” she said to the little girl, “We’re going to have our vacation in Mideel like I promised. Okay?”
Yuffie nodded. “Okay Okaa-chan!” she squealed.
Then some of the older children, the ones nearing adulthood, would start singing too.
Nine little Wutaians,
Their hearts were full of hate.
One took his neighbour's goods,
Then there were eight.
A ten year-old Yuffie ran out of the local materia shop, her arms full of the shimmery little balls.
“Come back here you thief!” the shopkeeper called.
Yuffie ran faster. Soon a cop caught up with her.
“You filthy street urchin! Give back those materia!”
“Never!” she yelled and ran faster.
The shopkeeper pulled out a Midgarian-made gun and aimed it at her back. He fired. The cop jumped in at the very last second…
Then the adults would join, singing jubilantly the lyrics that were such a mockery.
Eight little Wutaians,
They just got down from heaven.
One told a lie about another's best friend,
Then there were seven.
“Nenene! Did you hear about Yuffie?” a black-haired girl whispered to a dark brown haired girl.
“No! What happened?” Nenene exclaimed.
“Apparently her father disowned her since she refused to marry a noble man to take the throne!”
“Your kidding! That’s insane. I feel sorry for Yuffie now…”
“You feel sorry for me?”
Nenene jumped out of her skin. She hadn’t seen or heard Yuffie come up behind her. She turned to face the fourteen year old.
“W-Well… I mean your father did disown you….”
Yuffie’s face started turning a dark shade of red…. Then purple…
“WHO THE F*CK TOLD YOU THAT YOU DITZY BIMBO sl*t?!”
Nenene pointed behind her. “She did!”
Yuffie’s eyes narrowed. “There’s no one there Nenene. Guess that means you’re dead huh?”
Soon the whole town was singing. Singing, singing, singing. So much singing.
Seven little Wutaians,
All trying to get their kicks.
One thought he'd found another way to get to heaven,
Then there were six.
“Daughter,” Godo said to Yuffie, “you must gather materia for our poor country of Wutai. It is the only way we will be able to pull ourselves out of this and make it to prosperity.”
Yuffie’s eyes had sparked at the word “materia”. Oh Leviathan how she LOVED materia.
“Sure thing pops!” the fifteen year old squealed.
“Just be…” Godo started.
“Catch ya later! I gots me some materia to hunt down!” Yuffie broke in before running out of the front gates of Wutai.
The old fogies broke off first, saying that they had places to be and things to see.
Six little Wutaians
Trying to stay alive.
One took another's life,
Then there were five.
Yuffie was nineteen. She was nineteen and she was now officially a murderer. Godo’s bleeding corpse lay in front of her, riddled with kunai and shuriken and with her fuuma shuriken sticking out of the chest. She took a step back. Then another. And another. She broke into a run, sobbing the entire way out of Wutai’s gates.
Then the businessmen left, saying that they had to be at work in less than five minutes.
Five little Wutaians,
All trying to find the door.
One pulled his mother down,
Then there were four.
“Get out of the way okaa-san! I don’t care what you say! I’m going to take back Wutai no matter what! Even if you don’t belong there I do!” a fifteen year old boy cried to Yuffie.
“No please Rihatsu! Reconsider! I want Wutai back as much as you do, but we can’t do it just by storming it with only one or two people! We have to strategize! Gather troops! Anything but just running in there like chickens with their heads cut off!” she cried back.
“Okaa-san there are no troops. There is no back up. There is nothing to strategize for. We’re all going to die like this. That’s why I’m going to die like a man, fighting for my country.”
The children close to adulthood left next, saying that they had to be at school.
Four little Wutaians,
All thinking that they gotta be free.
One little Wutaian forgot to say his prayers,
Then there were three.
“Okaa-chan? Will we ever be free from those bad men?” a three year old with dark brown hair and red eyes asked Yuffie.
“Someday Sasuke. Someday we will all be free,” she replied.
“Promise Okaa-chan?”
“Promise.”
The sounds of fighter planes filled the air.
“See? Here they come Sasuke. Here they come to free us.”
Suddenly the sky turned red.
The mothers turned to go back in, saying that they had to get supper ready.
Three little Wutaians,
Deciding what they're gonna have to do.
One took the name of God in vain,
Then there were two.
“God, God, Oh God Vincent! Sasuke was caught in the blast! My baby! He’s gone! J-Just like Rihatsu!” Yuffie cried into the tall man’s shoulder.
Vincent hugged his wife, trying to console her, but it was all in vain.
A gun shot rang out and Vincent crumpled on top of Yuffie.
“Vincent!”
The ill-bred bastards from the slums left next, not saying anything at all.
Two little Wutaians,
Thinking that they oughtta have some fun.
One took a liking to a picture of himself,
Then there was one.
“Tseng… We’re the only ones left you know…”
“I know Yuffie.”
Tseng was staring at a picture.
“Whatcha got there Tseng?” Yuffie asked.
“A picture.”
“What’s it a picture of huh?”
“Myself.”
“Um…. Why do ya need that?”
“So that I can feel even the tiniest bit better….. about this…”
He raised a gun to his head and pulled the trigger.
Now only the children were left.
One little Wutaian,
Out looking for the sun.
At six o'clock, the moon came out,
Then there was none.
At the ripe old age of ninety-two, Yuffie sat alone in her study in the long dilapidated pagoda at the center of Wutai.
In the end, people all over the world had heard of the Wutaians’ plight and sent armies to fight the invaders. They were late. They were far, far too late. She was the only Wutaian left and had no choice but to let go. So she did. She had married Reno of the Turks and lived a love-filled, but lonely existence in Midgar. She had four daughters, and three sons who were all strong.
It wasn’t enough.
She couldn’t live without her sons Rihatsu and Sasuke or her first husband, Vincent Valentine. She couldn’t live without her second husband, Tseng either. His suicide still affected her today. And after Reno’s death, she had totally broken down. She moved back to the pagoda in Wutai and lived there.
She sat in the study.
The clock struck six.
The sun went down.
Yuffie was dead.
In Midgar, there was a song that children sang. It was a happy, upbeat song with seemingly innocent lyrics, but if you looked underneath the underneath all the song portrayed was death.

A/N: Don't ask where it came from.... I'm not sure... It just came... yeah.... I'm depressed now... I don't know who owns the song... I've just heard it a lot and memorized it and fixed it so it said Wutaians instead of Indians.
Review please?
