Hey all...this is my first Final Fantasy VIII story...and I have no idea where this will go. ^_^ I thought I would post it for laughing's sake. lol So, yeah...this is just the prologue, and lemme know what you think. I only have a little bit of Chapter 1 finished, though I could probably post it at it's length now.
And since this is a still unfinished story, and I don't know that much about it, I can't post a summary other than this:
Squall, Quistis, and Selphie are investigating a report in Balamb Forest when they find something interesting.
That's just basically the prologue synopsis. ^_^
This story's rating is T for Teen from brief descriptions of very low gore, violence basically, and probable fluff in laters chapters. There is an OC, who is of my own creating. I don't know if it will be a Squall/OC fic or whatever. ^_^ Just the requirements there for ya.
Okay, on with this story! ^_^ Please, let me know what you think. I would be thrilled to hear opinions.
Prologue
As the party of three stepped into the clearing, they immediately stopped. There, in the distance, was a bloody mess. The grass surrounding it was red and unearthed. It seemed that the area had been cleared for such a deed. Once the deed had been done, the region of the forest had been deserted. There was no other sign of a disturbance, though.
The tallest of the three dared to step forward and break the spell. He caught his breath at what greeted him.
It was a body, blood-splattered and torn, in the midst of everything. What sickened him thoroughly was that the body was that of a girl. Her clothes were ripped and beneath that bore wounds from a blade. Her arms were bruised and scraped. There were little cuts on her legs that spoke of her running through thorns and underbrush. All in all, the boy didn’t think that the girl was still alive.
With a sigh, the SeeD leader knelt down and felt for a pulse on the girl’s neck. He nodded to himself and stood. “She’s still alive,” he told his team members. Relief swept over him, but he couldn’t say why.
When he had received orders to check the forest near Balamb, he had figured some Caterchipillars had been causing some ruckus. He hadn’t expected to find a body. No, that had not even been in the top ten things he had expected. So he stood, looking over his other two team members and the astonished looks on their faces. He figured that he looked just as amazed, despite his usual mask of passiveness. But it didn’t count right now. This was a big matter, and far be it from him to act unaffected.
“Quistis run back to Garden and bring the medics to carry her back. Selphie—Selphie!” he called her name more forcefully to bring her from her stupor. “Selphie, you come cast what you can to help her. I’m gonna go look for any evidence.”
Quistis saluted and ran back the way they came. Selphie blinked a couple times before she walked over to the unconscious body. She knelt down in the blood-dampened earth and started casting whatever she saw fit. Meanwhile, the young man turned away and fell into his world of thoughts.
Why would this happen? Who would do such a thing? The girl didn’t seem like she could be a threat to anyone. She appeared to be only a slight thing. Another glance over at her showed him that she had been armed, but hadn’t drawn the dagger resting in a hilt at her hip. Why hadn’t she drawn that? Did she possess other weapons she’d used against her foe and lost? And better yet, what could possibly do this to her in the forest between Garden and Balamb? In the years that he had lived on this island, there had been no damage done to anyone this terribly. If it had, the newspapers and magazines had covered it up and kept it under wraps. But that didn't sound like the media in Balamb. Everyone knew what happened in everyone's family there.
Was it even possible to save this girl? Though the magic that they had was mid-level, the girl’s wounds appeared to be deep, and she had lost a lot of blood already. The cuts were already scabbing with dried blood. It had to have been at least two to three hours ago that the attack happened. Whoever—or whatever—had done it was long gone by now, and their trail was gone. But this was an island. They could not have gone far, unless they were taking refuge in the Fire Caverns or they had a boat. Either way, it would be impossible to find them now.
He turned when he heard footsteps approaching. Quistis had returned with two of the medics and a stretcher. He immediately rushed to help them.
“You all right?” Quistis asked him.
He looked up at her once the girl was carefully placed on the carrier. “Of course,” he retorted.
“You’re pale.” She lifted a blond eyebrow at him.
In response, he turned looked away and folded his arms across his chest. “Whatever. Let’s just get back. I’ll send someone back here later to look for stuff,” he mumbled and walked off.
Quistis sighed and shook her head. Even when she had been an instructor, he had been hard to deal with. But even with her as a SeeD again, he was still just as impossible. Though some things changed, it appeared this didn’t. He was still the same concealed and uninviting person he had been a few weeks ago.
No, if anything was going to change Squall Leonhart, they would have to go through a lot of stonewalls. Quistis would pay cash to see that feat accomplished.
