Title: The More Things Change... The More They Change! Duh!
Summary: Zenny Grasten Bolbocheck has virus Zeta3-O-721, also known as The Death Dissease. The only cure for this disease is cryogenics, unfortunatly though, though they've found a way to put people into statis, they haven't found a way to revive them. Zenny is also a special case, whose body is shutting down as she's frozen. She isn't able to be revived until much later in the future.
Authors Notes: Well, like all of my stories, this one too starts like a fairy tale, because that's just my signature. I have up to five chapters done prior to this (MWAHAHA the contest happened to fall into an area I already write!) but I'm only going to put up the first four unless requested to do otherwise.
Rating: Teen, as always, cause that's just who I write for.
Chapter One
Once upon a time in the twenty-third century there was a disease that spread through touch. Even a touch through a glove or needle would serve as enough contact to sentence you as a walking dead man. The only way to kill the virus was to freeze it. However one can’t exactly freeze a virus alone.
To freeze the virus and keep the patient alive was to flash-freeze the people. This was a gigantic success, the freezing killed the virus instantly and set the person into a frozen, but still retrievable state. The only down side to this treatment was that in Twenty-two twenty there was no way to reanimate the frozen patients. So they were put in storage. But, why should we care about these poor chums right?
Because I’m one of them. Yup, I have Virus Zeta3-O-721. The Death Disease. The Death Disease is a good name for it, for once you have it there are no symptoms but a sudden death. So how do I know I have it? Mother and Father just died. This means at best, with it’s two part incubation phases I have any where from two days to two weeks to live. Lucky me. Time to hit the Chambers. At least I’ll survive. Perhaps I should explain more about the Chambers, and Zeta3?
Firstly, Zeta3 is a man-made virus. It’s a terrorist weapon gone horribly wrong. Not only did Zeta3 attack the intended country, it spread back to the terrorist group and just about wiped them out as well. You see Zeta is a virus that spreads lives on the skin. It has an odd ability to sink through skin of any kind, including leather and secondary ‘plastic skins’. This makes it impossible for one human to treat another without being infected.
Still, some scientists sacrificed themselves finding the cure. A type of cryogenics. These cryogenic centers are called Chambers. Again this apt, if not creative name, fits perfectly. Chamber’s are completely self reliant, doing everything from building more chambers to leading the walking dead to their Coffins. The Coffins are the glass like box which we’re frozen in.
I’m packing now, you see you can bring whatever fits under your arm with you to the Chambers. I’ve decided to bring this book, so even if I don’t survive my lovely attitude will. Haha I’m sure that will be good hm?
The Zal is passing my house now. It’s screaming that this area has been infected and that we are all to board or we’ll be Ice-Bombed like the rest of the city. You cannot survive being Ice-Bombed.
Ice bombs are what are being used to take care of the dead. After an area has been infected the inhabitants have four hours to get onto the Zal and brought to the closest Chamber, which are normally built in the middle of no where. Those who die on the way to the Chamber are thrown out of the Zal. As such, the roads to the Chamber are strictly off limits, not that anyone would go near them any way because it would be like holding a large sign over your head saying “Hey Death Disease Over Hear, I want you, I need you, take me away!”, I would say that would be clinically insane but that’s me.
I’m on the Zal now. A Zal is a little bit like a flying... car I think they’re called, only much longer and it holds upwards of three hundred people comfortably. Right now I’d say there are about seven hundred people on this Zal and the child who’s back I’m typing this on is getting impatient with me. She’s scared and I think it’s time that I comfort her instead of write any more.
Sevy is fine now, her parent’s, like mine are dead, so we’ve decided to get our Coffin’s close by to each other. Sevy is cool for a kid her age, she’s ten with purple hair and eyes and very dark brown almost black skin. She’s read what I’ve written and told me to put down the part about Florida. The fact that Disney Land sunk. She says it would be good to mention the fact that the terrorists did that and set off Zeta3 among the sinking land so that the rescuers found dead bodies and soon died themselves. I told her she was grim and she just looked at me with those big purple eyes and said it was the times.
Sorry I started crying and had to stop again. We’ve arrived at the Chamber’s now. There are wires hanging out everywhere and some of the Clicks are scurrying openly around our feet. I don’t like Clicks. I know they’re useful and they build things, but they just look too muck like spiders. Sevy wanted to be a mechanic and keeps trying to pick them up. Finally one bit her and she stopped. I feel bad about it but it won’t hurt much longer. A voice is leading us to our Coffins.
Wow, they look cool. They’re sort of like a frosted glass only, they aren’t glass and there are all sorts of wires and tubes hooked up to them. I helped Sevy into her Coffin and watched as the machine closed the lid. It was odd. The only unfrosted area was over her face. Some where under the frost machines were ripping off her clothes and discarding them and only leaving Tish, Sevy’s plush cat, untouched. They did this just to help the process of the flash freeze.
What I could see though was Sevy’s eyes slowly closing. The anesthetics were starting to set in. She smiled up at me finally before she fell asleep.
“Human, please take five steps away from the cryogenic holding unit.” The voice said. It wasn’t a nice voice, it was the voice of some cranky scientist who was about to be put in an uncertain place with uncertain ends. Very composed for a person who liked to know what was going on. Well any way I listened to it and still, when the flash freeze activated, I was chilled to the bone.
“Human! Please get into your holding unit. Place your-” Here there was an odd little voice over with an odd voice taking over the one word, “Notebook, under your arm and get into your chamber.
Well guy’s I guess I’ll see you later.
