The Shift
So it’s the end Or is it the beginning End of naiveté Beginning of innocence.
You believe you can Transfer easily But you have gotten Spoiled and lazy by the summer sun.
You have been In a place with little pressure No tests to take No life altering decisions to make,
The transition’s hard And for a week or so you thrive Then begin to falter Already you think you are exhausted.
But was there ever an end, And was there ever a beginning? Time goes on forever With no beginning or end.
A month or so later, you begin To pull yourself out of the malaise Fall has created And you begin to see how things should be.
The hole you’re in At the ‘end’ of summer Is no hole at all Just in your imagination.
The hole you see Is really all your fears You have of success You know that this year counts.
You are too proud You must become more humble You want it all But think you can have it all without trying.
You must make the shift From learning in the summer And applying in the fall.
So now I end This poem- a remnant of the malaise I drop this pen And face what I must face.
I encourage you all To begin to fight your giants You’ll feel so powerful and fulfilled That’s what I’m going to do.
Are you?
