And so the highly anticipated (at least by myself) show has premiered (for most of us by now...) and was positively amazing. First, I'll give you all some info in case you're stumbling upon this like, "Okay, what is she rambling about now....?"
"The Next Great American Band" (hereafter known as NGAB), aired tonight for the first time at 8/7 Central, on FOX. From the producers of American Idol, we can now watch FULL BANDS, rather than individual singers performing. The outcome? The highly coveted by garage bands record deal!! Whether they're just a one-hit wonder after that is up to them, actually.
With recognizable names such as Sheila E., Ian "Dicko" Dickson, andthe gorgeous John Rzeznik, (Note to Self: This is not a personal diary, so must not talk too much about how hot John is...) the show is bound to attract attention just from that.
In my personal opinion (Note to Self: When using own personal opinion, feel free to talk about how hot John Rzeznik is...), after hearing some of the talents up there, I'd keep watching it. Honestly, I was excited about John, because he's my favorite singer, no matter who else I listen to for however long. But there were so many good performers/musicians on the show tonight; I was sort of amazed that none of them had pushed ahead for a record deal.
Twelve bands made it through, essentially, and I was quite amazed at one of them. "Light of Doom", a group of about six (give or take) 12 and 13 year olds, man. They made it through, if only by Sheila E.'s bullying John into saying Yes. But they were amazing, man; it would have been an immediate yes from me. The fact that these kids had the guts to get up there and not get tongue-tied in front of the judges speaks for itself. Their vocalist sounded great for his age; yeah, when he goes through puberty, they may not put out that many tunes if they get signed before that time, but man...the parents must be proud. Some child prodigies on the stage.
There was a great mixture; a few country bands, a bluegrass band, a BIG (12 people) band made it up; some rock and pop, too, of course. Another personal favorite of mine was "Rocket", an all girl band that's trying to break the stereotypes made about the type of band. They were a little pitchy, IMO, occasionally, but they were still awesome, good enough to make it to the next round.
Of the bands that didn't make it...I'm glad. I would have liked to have seen "Northmont" make it, but I do agree with what John said about them: They needed to harden up their tunes more. They sounded really soft in comparison to what they could do, and what their image portrays. And again agreeing this time with Dicko, the rest of the band was holding the vocalist back. He was amazing, reminded me of a particular band I currently can't think of (Creed came to mind, but he wasn't so throaty), but the band was a few levels lower than him, and he was putting himself at their level to accommodate. It should have been the other way around.
Anyway.
So the point of this thread....those of you who watched it tonight, or may start watching it in the future (at least those in the US), contribute here!
