I've already seen it. It was... alright. Worthy of all it's nominations, but nothing absolutely phenomenal. The songs were cheesy as hell sometimes, too. I cringe whenever I hear "I'm gonna steal you..."

I really want to see that movie. However, I'm underage. No R-rated movies and no Neon Genesis Evangelion. What a wonderful Christmas.

lol. I'm fifteen. My Mom bought the tickets then gave them to me and a friend lol. And it was a good movie... Although the songs were cheesy, (dear God, they were morbid too lol), the thing I hated most was how obviously fake the blood was... And the blood spurting kind of freaked me out, but I made it through. =D
Ugh, but I went with one of my porn book friends, (just poke around, you'll see a post explaining that somewhere...), and she made me go watch P.S. I love you afterwards. It was a good movie, but she kept drooling over the scottish guy lol.

Funny, I actually gave up hope yesterday of ever seeing it. All I keep hearing is "bloody", which really doesn't bother me, but if by "bloody" everyone means "gorey" I probably won't like it. But Neb, I think you've lightened my mood. Maybe I can handle it after all?
And as for the songs being cheesy, unfortunately that can happen in Broadway-to-Hollywood adaptations. I feel like stage actors have a power of lessening the cheese-factor than screen actors do. The only songs I can think of that I know from the show are "Not While I'm Around" and "Epiphany", and I only heard Epiphany just lately on the film's soundtrack. I though Johnny did it decently. I didn't hear the film version of "Not While I'm Around" yet. The only negative thing I've heard is that Helena Bonham Carter doesn't do Mrs. Lovett's songs any justice at all.

It doesn't mean gory by a long shot. Just lots and lots of blood... lol. And I know... The only musical that they've done really well lately is Hairspray.
I didn't know that Johnny Depp could sing though, and he can. Mrs. Lovett did really good, although I haven't seen Sweeny Todd on stage so I can't know for sure. *shrugs* Good movie though, although the ending was ... different.

Most people assume Johnny is a singer from one of his earlier films, Cry-Baby, but his voice was actually dubbed for that one. He did drop out of high school to focus on music (he was a guitarist, I believe). Anyhow, I don't really expect any actors/actresses to not have the ability to sing, since they must take vocal lessons as part of their own craft. Granted, that doesn't always make a singer (there is a thing called 'talent' that's necessary), but I think it gives them a pretty good start down that path. Anyhow. I haven't seen Hairspray, though I've heard great things about it. As for musicals lately, I'm a sucker for the '04 Phantom of the Opera.
