I knew I liked you I couldn't listen to 90s country when I write for the simple reason that it distracts me, I have so many memories in those songs that I'll start reminiscing and forget what I'm writing. Unfortunaltly most of the time I don't get to listen to it. Mom work's weekends so she's home all week, and the best way to get alone time is to turn on Alt Nation on serious. It get's distracting but it's good music and keeps mom away.

To answer the question as best I can
"There are people hell-bent on the idea that we're a Christian band in disguise, and that we have some secret message … We have no spiritual affiliation with this music. It's simply about life experience." is a quote from Amy Lee. So... technically they are not a Christian rock band.
However they do seem to have alot of christian messages.
But just because a band has a dark sound to their music and feel, does not mean they are not christian. Aside from songs like "With Arms Wide Open", Creed was very heavy and very dark....but they WERE a Christian Rock band.
Even Pantera is not Satanic, and many of their songs do sound like it....but in fact have a very Christian meaning in the lyrics.
I must say, I am really surprised at some of the stuff people write to, I always thought heavier louder things would be more destracting

I completely agree. I can only listen to stuff without words really to write to. I mean, I might listen to a song with words for inspiration or a story idea, but I wouldn't actually do my writing to it.

Say, Lady Idril, I know you posted this like, forever ago, but I just read it and you should try Enya - Only Time, Tesla - Love Song and Plumb - In My Arms for your medieval sounding playlist thingy. (I have a lot that remind me and most of them were on your list, but not those three) I listen to a lot of stuff while writing. I have a HUGE mix playlist on my hard drive (about 1100 songs, I think haha) But I can't listen to rap or story songs while writing because they grab my attention and I can't concentrate on what I was writing anymore, lol! Country does that too and certain rock. But for the most part I can listen to anything, though I must admit the slower and more calming the better. :-) Maybe I'll make a list of my "quiet" playlist sometime cause I find that I write to it a lot. Oh, and I think I'll throw my two cents into the Evanescence discussion mix if nobody minds, haha. Let me just say, I do not think they are a Christian band at ALL. I used to be very, um... depressed, to put it lightly. And Evanescence was pretty much my anthem. Their music made me feel good because it felt just the way I did (angry, tortured, broken and, mostly, depressed) and somehow that helped. But I've had a turnaround, praise God ;D, and now I can only listen to a select couple of their songs because it brings me down. I'm not telling anybody what to listen to, but if you wanna be brought down for a bit, give Evanescence a listen, I doubt they'll disappoint.
