Not many would think after looking at my record that I absolutely abhore today's press. The reason is simple:
THEY DON'T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NEWS AND NEWS!
Okay, you might not see the difference here, but I do. Here's a simple example:
News:
Chaney shot a friend while hunting.
News:
The Katrine Commission report came out blaming the federal government for ignorning the warnings.
Which did you know more about before I mentioned them?
Here's another example:
News:
A British man is suspected in the murder of his wife and daughter, however he ran back to Britain and pleaded the British equivalent of the fifth amendment.
News:
A wildfire threatens homes near Anahiem, CA.
Again, which did you know more about?
In order to find the important information one must hunt through dozens, perhaps more, "human interest" stories (though what's interesting about a woman who got cold feet is beyond me). It's easier to get shot while hunting quail than to wade through New Orleans. In fact it would be easier to find a needle in the perverbial haystack than to find information about what's truly important.
I don't care that Britney Spears drives with her baby in her lap, I don't care that Angelina Jolie is going to have Brad Pitt's kid, I don't care about the gossip rags of Hollywood, that's where that stuff belongs, not on the evening news. Chaney shooting someone, I can understand, the murder of the wife and child, I can understand, it's news, however when it eclipses something that the average American voter should know about, or just the average American, it's not important.
Our boarders are weak, illegal immagrants are running across them daily.
Iran is trying to get a nuclear bomb.
The Hammas party won the Palestian election.
And Tom and Katie are or aren't having relationship troubles, depending on the source.
You decide what's more important. National security, the Hollywood gossip rags, or "human interest."
