Hello everyone. This is my first time here. I am a self-published writer through the amazon advantage program. One of my books is a collection of short stories that I self-published through amazon advantage as an ebook. I am trying to sell some of the sindividual stories by submitting to magazines and contests. My question is are these stories considered reprints? They were published by me in ebook form only and didn't sell at all. If they are considered reprints, my choices for submission are severely limited. Your advice/input is appreciated.

First of all, welcome to the site!!! We hope you have a good time here. Congrats on taking the initiative to get published. I don't know if they are considered reprints- I don't know too much of what's involved with all this ebook buisness. Sorry I couldn't be of more help-- I'm sure someone else will post on this thread and will be able to help- we have quite a few self published authors here.
Again, sorry I couldn't help more, and welcome to the site,
Lady Mage

I'm afraid I'm in the same boat as Mage. ebooks are sort of confusing to me. But I'd think that the fact that they'd never actually been printed would make them not a reprint. But that's just my opinion.
By the way, welcome to the site and I hope you enjoy it here too.

Welcome to Novice Writers I've seen those Amazon groups before, never did try my hand with any of them, though. As far as the reprint question, I would say that you should either contact someone from the contests/magazine and ask them if your stories qualify. You may also find answers in any sort of FAQ or Guidelines section on the Sites of said contests/magazines. I can't be of any more help, unfortunately; I know nothing about them. But the best of luck to you!

Thanks to all who replied to my question and to all who will reply. I may have to contact each magazine/contest individually and see what their policy is regarding my question. I like this site.

I'm glad you do JD. We try to make people feel welcome at least. Let us know what the magazines say. That would be a good peice of information to know in case someone else has the same question in the future.

I contacted Writer's Digest.com about entering their writing competition. My self-publishing does disqualify me from their writing competition for original, unpublished work. They do have a contest for self -published work for which my story does qualify. The last sentence sounds strange but I believe it to be correct grammar. Anyway, I wanted to let you know. I'll find out what other magazines/contests say. Thanks for listening.
