Chapter #1- Bye, bye, coffee pot, hello summer
A crash could be heard a block away coming from the apartment building on Phoenix Drive. The particular apartment that the crash originated from was the home of a young 17-year-old girl and it seemed that an extremely unlucky coffeepot had met the wrath of a certain fuming teen. The crash was the result of the girl’s revenge on the coffeepot for ruining her favorite pair of jeans. The bad tempered teen glared at the mutilated coffeepot, which in return burst into flames and turned to ash.
Despite the teenage American-Egyptian’s normal appearance, she was far from average. She was a mage and proud of it. The hot tempered mage kept a mixed company of humans, vampires, other mages, and demons reincarnated into mortal bodies along with various other magical fiends and friends. The Egyptian girl had moved to American at the age of 12 with her adopted parents. She had never met her real parents and her adopted parents had claimed that they had found her near an oasis in the Egyptian desert on their honeymoon. Unfortunately her adopted father met his match with a sudden heart attack during a business meeting in NY city and her adopted mother, stricken with grief, died from lack of will to continue living. The school had told her that she did not need to go to an orphanage as long as she let the school keep an eye on her. Of course, she had agreed.
It was at school that she had met her best friend Chichiro, or as she referred to her, Chiro-chan, and they became fast friend. It wasn’t until later on that she had discovered that Chichiro was not at all normal herself. Chichiro was a Karn. Karn were extremely rare forms of immortal creatures that were similar to werewolves despite the fact that Karn and werewolves forever remained immortal enemies.
The Egyptian magic caster had been packing to go to camp and, just as she had did every year for the last 4 years, she would drive there with Chichiro and both would spend all summer at camp. Speaking of the devil, the green-eyed teen was startled out of her glaring contest with the pile of coffeepot ashes when the doorbell rang... DING DONG...DINGDONGDINGDONG...DINGDONGDINGDONGDINGDONGDINGDONG!
“Alright, alright, I’m coming. SHEESH!” The magi mayhem making (A/N: Boy, what a mouth full!) made her way over to the door and slammed it open, to reveal her wolfish (literally) best friend, Chichiro.
“I was just passing by when I heard you destroy your coffee pot. Thought I’d survey the damage!! How’s life been treating you, Ari,” she said cheerfully.
Aria Suzaki stood in utter confusion. “How did you- AHH, forget it. I should know by now that you’re a, quite frankly, freak of nature.”
“You’re one to talk,” she said darkly. Aria simply grinned widely and gave the victory sign.
“That’s annoying,” Chichiro stated in exasperation.
“You and I both know by now that I live to annoy you, Chiro-chan! So, what’s the real reason you came over? We’re not leaving ‘til tomorrow.” At this, Chichiro gave an excited grin. “Well, you know my Japanese pen pal who is actually from Britain. You know, Ryou?” Aria nodded.
“He’s coming to camp, too. He’s going to meet us there!”
Aria gave her a quizzical glance. “So, let me get this straight! Your pen pal that lives in Japan is coming all the way to America just to go to summer camp!”
“No,” she said. “He’s already in America with his father an a family vacation. His father is dropping him off at camp on his way back to Japan.” At this both girls began to talk about how great it would be to have Ryou at camp. All that Aria had heard about Ryou Bakura, Chichiro’s pen pal, had made her want to meet the boy. He sounded like a really great guy.
