Well Idril told me that she didn't know how to use it and after much work and doing the wrong thing with this program M helped me figure it out, now I'm passing it on to you all. This is a good program for changing VOB files into AVI files so you can use them on programs like Windows Movie Maker (WMM).
First thing is, you need the program and it's parts.
DVD2AVI
K-Lite Codec Pack (I downloaded the full version, but all of them should work).
The first is the actual program we are using. The second is a codec pack which gives you the ability to actually convert the VOB files into AVI files.
When you unzip DVD2AVI I suggest putting it on the desktop, but you could put it anywhere, it'll unzip a folder with the actual program.
To begin open DVD2AVI. Go to File and Open the .VOB file you want to change, you can also use it on .m2p, .m2v, and .mpv files, but I've never actually used those file extensions.
When you open one of the .VOB files, all of the .VOB files in that folder open. If you want more .VOB files from a different folder, hit ADD and find them and open them. If any of the .VOB files are files you don't want to use, click them and then DEL to delete them from the file list. When you're done hit OK.
This will automatically resize the viewing window and change the buttons.
You'll automatically have the time slider at the beginning of the file. Click it to jump a quarter of the video, click and drag to get near the point you want to start, or click the forward arrow button. When you get to the point you want to be the beginning of your video click the "[" button. Then repeat this process till you get to the end and hit the "]" button.
When you get that go to Save AVI under the file menu. Find a location to put it in (I suggest the "My Videos" folder) and give it a name then hit Save.
To more windows will pop up. One is an Information window, it's not really important, the other one is. It has a drop down menu listing the compressors. These will be the codecs from K-Lite. I use the DivX one, but M said she had trouble with that one. I don't think it really matters which one you use, but don't use "No Recompression" or "Full Frames (Uncompressed)" neither of these save the AVI. Once you chose one and hit okay it'll do the work. This process may take awhile, but you can watch it's progress in the status or with how the time slider moves.
If you don't have it as the top screen while it's working then it will beep when it's done and there you are a brand new AVI.
To do another I suggest closing and reopening the program as it may not work for more than one at a time.
Now go and make AMVs and fan vids.
