She means a work that has not been published as an actual book. Only partially correct. She means a work that has not ever been used or seen by anyone but you or a beta before, I.E. you cannot have posted this work on the internet, nor submitted it for publishing via hard copy in order to remain within the confines of the rules. Why can't it have been posted elsewhere online? It's mine still isn't it? ~Anna Christie~

The whole point is that you write just for the competition, its universal amongst forums. original, so new, never been done before, written just for this competition (though you could take it elsewhere afterwards). Besides, it would give an unfair advantage if you already know its good/have corrected parts of it. the point being once you post it here, you leave it alone... to make it fair.

Besides, it would give an unfair advantage if you already know its good/have corrected parts of it. Exactly. (Thank you, Slatu, I was trying to find a way to word that) We want to see your writing as you would write it, without previous tweaking by others, etc. Say you already wrote something and submitted it on FictionPress and someone left you a review saying, "I think you should change this around" and you took their advice. Then the work wouldn't be the piece at it's most raw, original point. That's what we're looking for

Okay. I understand now. Thank y'all for explaining that to me!!! I think I'll write something for the contest... Do y'all have one every two months? Or what?

Or what? ~Anna Christie~ We run each set of contests for two months, and start the next set as soon as the voting period for the previous set is over. Ultimately, though, the Contest Panel decides, and it also depends on the time of year. During the Christmas holidays we extended the contests for three months so people would have plenty of time to come up with entries

Oh, I've been meaning to ask. Would it be good to stagger the competitions? So that you get them finishing more regularly? It'd be better than these sudden bursts in my opinion....
