A Tense Relationship: by Magewhisperer Rating: K
Your sweetness overwhelmed me
Your cuteness did too
You were really so nice to me
You came up and gave me a hug because
You thought I was lonely
You didn’t know that I was surviving on my own
Your hug threw me off guard but
You were so nice to me, then
You came and sat down next to me on the piano, where I asked if
You knew any music, and stopped playing
You did a few jazz chords, then grinned. I felt myself falling, falling for
You.
I walked up to the area where we waited for dinner with you
I enjoyed every step of the way
I didn’t feel the need to get away from you
I felt totally at ease, for one of the first times
I wondered why you had come up to me
I waited by your side, and another girl came up and cried your name.
I moved away. So maybe you were already attached
I watched covertly, and you didn’t seem to mind that
I had gone to say hi to someone else
I still hoped in you and the next day you came and joined the game
I was playing. The game was on.
I now really liked you, yes, the cold fish,
I.
We finished the game, and it was time for the dance
We sat together on the trampoline, and I realized I needed to change
We weren’t we at dinner that night. I heard you call my name, but wasn’t sure
We sat together outside before the dance, because of me
We, now mainly me, refused to move: I wanted to cultivate the
We aspect. Your niceness never stopped, but different vibes told me that
We were over, if
We were ever on in the first place.
We went in, but you seemed shy and
We separated, and went off to dance in respective places.
We danced in the same circles several times, but that was all
We really did, until I asked you to dance and so did
We.
They seemed to whirl around us, but I was so happy I didn’t even notice
Them, until the song was over, and so was my dance
They swarmed in, asking you to dance.
Their low jeans and belly baring shirts visible in the low light
They told me later, after the dance, that you had a girlfriend
They made me so mad, but
They couldn’t make me stop liking you.
They asked me who I liked, I told them the truth
They said aw, that’s so cute, just like I was hoping
They wouldn’t say. The next day I tried to sit down next to you
They weren’t watching, but you didn’t say anything to my greeting.
Them, you were turning into one of
Them.
I still wouldn’t give up
I refused to stop trying. The end of camp was approaching and
I wanted your picture with me
I put my arm around your shoulders, we grinned for the camera
I noticed you didn’t put your arms around me
I played cards with you for the last time in the airport
I had to leave eventually, and hugged you goodbye
I now think that you didn’t really know what was going on with me
I’m so different, you see, and people don’t generally stick around to see
Me, the coldfish queen.
