Okay, since we seem to be starting to talk about cosplaying over in the convention list thread, I figure we'll talk about it here.
So first things first. Some folk might stumble in here thinking, "Anime conventions, huh?" then see this thread and think, "Cosplay, wtf?" Well, cosplaying is when you dress up like someone (or sometimes something O.o) from a series, be it anime, a manga cosplay, a TV show, a movie, etc, etc, etc. The boundaries are limited only to the convention's rules!! Some people work very, very hard and come up with a magnificent costume made of wonderful fabrics that cost someone an arm and a leg (most likely Edward Elric...). Other people don't work for quite so long with as much effort and still reach a presentable cosplay.
There are contests for best cosplay, and people put together a group of cosplays from similar fandoms to do skits for contests as well. All in all, it's quite a fun part of conventions. So don't think of us as freaks running around in sometimes brightly colored or scanty outfits; think of us as artists.
A second post will be made and modified for the use of links for helpful tips and guides on cosplays. So submit any links you know of for anything dealing with cosplays and costuming (including wigs and makeup, not just the clothing! and I'll add it too the list! And if you have any tips you wanna post, let me know and I'll put those up too.
As a costumer myself, I am willing to aid anyone in any way that I can. If it's needed, I have made costumes for a fee in the past for people, but am more willing to give advice for situations. So if you have any questions about a cosplay, such as what type of seam to use with what material, what type of needle on the machine, what type of material for which cosplay, and anything at all, I am willing to help! So ask away here, PMs, or a messenger.
