Hey, I have a question I don't think we particularly discussed before. Could the fiction be based on the painter, why he painted the portrait, for example. Sort of a "Girl With the Pearl Earring" situation? Or would that not be considered original since the character isn't original? Does that make any sense?
(hah, M you'll never guess what song just came on..."And through it all, she offers me protection...")

That sounds a lot like "Finding Neverland".

You know I don't see why not. I think it could be about the Artist just as easily.
Idril, I think you stumped Anime on a song. That has never happened before.
Here I'll give you a couple more lines Anime. Maybe you can figure it out.
Alot of love and affection. Whether I'm right or wrong.
That song is above amazing. I can't stop listening to it.

Scottish impressionist Jack Vettriano has a gallery here. I can't stop raving about his work, and a lot of his pieces seem perfect for this contest. Although fair warning, a lot of the paintings are dark and quite a few have some form of adult content. But there are a lot, like Beautiful Daydreamer that look inspiriing to me. Enjoy! Also, I was going to use one, this one particularly: But I've decided to do a different one, so if anybody wants to use that feel free. It's The Captain's Daughter by Tissot.
