I have heard of a lot of song fics that have been removed, but then again, I've read several that are still there.
It seems as if they pick and choose, who gets the boot. I had a request to start a petition about the song fic situation, but their rules are quite explicit concerning it, and that's one I don't think they'll bend. I'm still considering it, but for now I'm laying low.

It seems that ffn. is still being rather biased, but the option to reply is certainly an improvement. And it's possible to delete flames and unwanted anonymous reviews, so even if we can't reply to them, we don't have to look at them either. Although, I agree with M, flames really don't bother me that much. Someone who has unwarranted reasons for not liking my style is wasting their time. I haven't yet seen a flame that provides suggestions for improvement, or logical reasons for why my writing didn't sit well with them. Somehow, "you're communist" -- which isn't true -- "it's none of your business" and "you didn't have enough background information to write this" just don't cut it with me . . . . It seems that one of the reasons ffn. wouldn't let us reply to anonymous reviewers is probably b/c their new system sends out an email, and while members have their emails entered on the site, guests obviously don't. Not that I agree that we shouldn't be allowed to write replies in, or anything.

If I had been designing the reply system at ffn I would have made it similar to the feedback system that ebay uses. It states the feedback given and then any reply that is given goes directly underneath that in the same box. Doing it that way would have made it possible to reply to all reviews.
But I'm assuming the reason they are using the email system is to save disk space. Once the reply is sent it is deleted from their servers. That is the only logical reason I can see for them to do it this way. From my own experience with running a website, I know that the more disk space your site takes up the higher the hosting costs. That is the reason that I chose to use the forum format for this site. I pay for hosting for the main website, including the art gallery, but I use a free host for the forum. The host makes money off of the google ads they show, and I get as much disk space as I want. So I don't have to set any restrictions on the number of posts made.

hmm, actually, i like the reply option better than the insert reply thing, It captures my emotion exactly when it happens,(which in the case of flamers, is a whoooole lot of spam, yup, lots a spam, hatefull mean spam too!) because i get very happy when i get reviews, it makes my day, if their good, otherwise, i get grumpy.

I like the option too, I just wish it also placed the reply on the review page on top of sending an email, that way if it is anonymous you can still have your say. Or for that matter leave it as it is, but make it so you can reply on the review page to only the anonymous ones. Oh well we got most of what we wanted, so I shouldn't complain so much.

Remember we were talking about the flamers getting away with murder on our stories with anonymous reviews? FF.net has made another change:
I don't know how much that does, though...to me, it seems that they won't allow your story to get too many anon. reviews. What about the members who don't want to log in, people who aren't members and would like to review, and just the random off thing that comes up? That all can amount to a good amount of anon. reviews. But I guess they mean they won't let a lot of flamers just spam every chapter of your story, telling you how much it sucks and we need to go back to selling pencils or whatever comes to their mind.
What do y'all think?
