Well, the only thing frightful I found in the book was when Catherine was imagining that General Tilney had either murdered or locked up his wife - I'm expecting to still jump out of my seat when she and Eleanor are going to Eleanor's mother's room and they're stopped by the General. Or when Catherine decides to go on her own and runs into Henry. Oh, and the very first night in Northanger when she goes through the cabinet! But I don't suppose they'll really be scary. It's supposed to be more along the lines of a parody, isn't it? I shouldn't think they'll take it quite so seriously. It seems to me to be rather a coming-of-age story and, of course, a romance. I'm very excited! From the clips I saw I liked...Felicity Jones, I think it is... as Catherine. She's got her youthful spark.

Okay, sorry for the double post here- my computer isn't allowing me to edit the posts right now for some stupid reason. Now, on to buisness. Who just loved the adaption of Northanger Abbey??? I sure did!!!! How excellent! The movie truly made me remember why the book is one of my favorites of Jane's. However, I felt like the movie was a bit abbreviated. Do you know if that was because more scenes will be released on the DVD? Did they abbridge it for TV?
Hope you all liked it,
mage

Ahh, I just adored Northanger! I'm so thrilled with how it turned out. The only thing that I found slightly disappointing was the end; I thought the final scene was so incredibly fast. Though moments like those I wish could play out in slow motion, so we could see every emotion passing the characters' faces. But it was perfectly lovely. Like Persuasion, I'm confident they cut scenes, perhaps for time, and that they will be added to the dvd. I haven't bought Persuasion yet so I can't tell you for sure if they are on there, but I heard that they were supposed to be.

I'm looking forward to finding out if there are more scenes on the DVD. Will you let me know? Because I think I will be purchasing the DVD if that is so. What a wonderful adaptation. And the first ever, I think!

Actually, Mage, there was another made-for-tv adaptation some time ago with Peter Firth. I don't know if it's on dvd, though. Well, I looked up the Northanger Abbey dvd on Amazon.com and it says it's 90mins, but the dvd on Amazon.co.uk says 120mins. So it looks like the cut scenes will be staying cut. Edit to say that the Persuasion dvd is apparently 93mins on both sites, but Northanger and Mansfield have 30 extra minutes of movie on the UK dvds. One more edit with a link, to the always lovely AustenBlog, which describes the missing scenes from the US Northanger DVD: here.

I want to see the full Northanger! Maybe I can buy it off of amazon.co.uk? Hmm...
