I wasn't entirely fond of Emma the character, either, to be honest. But I liked Mr. Knightley and Harriet Smith quite a bit As far as other Austen characters, I could never hate Anne Elliot. She's one of my favorites. Even though she was so easily persuaded, she had a good heart and eventually found the courage to stand for herself. Fanny I don't hate, though she's anything but an Austen heroine. Had she been sort of a side character in another book, I would probably like her a great deal.

True, Anne isn't that bad. I still like Elizabeth Bennet the best, and the eldest Dashwood girl. I don't remember her name (Eleanor maybe?)... I haven't read that book in SO long!

Yes, Eleanor. I like her too. She reminds me a bit of Jane Bennet, and ironically Marianne Dashwood reminds me of Lydia Bennet (perhaps not quite so extravagant; maybe more along the lines of Kitty).

Hm... I always wonder what happened to Kitty. Most people say that she marries a clergyman.

What did you think of tonight's show? Personally, I wasn't that large a fan--- I thought Becoming Jane showed Jane much better. I'm not saying it was bad, it just wasn't knock your socks off good.
Anyways, looking forward to Pride and Prejudice next week!

Well, wasn't Becoming Jane more along the lines of fiction? I haven't seen it, but I've heard it's very unfaithful to her true life story. Personally I loved Miss Austen Regrets much more than I expected I would. I thought the acting was brilliant, particularly Olivia Williams. Very beautiful, in my humble opinion. An FYI, Miss Austen Regrets is not set for a single DVD release, rather it'll be features on the Sense & Sensibility 2008 DVD. However, according to AustenBlog, a petition has been started to get the film its own DVD

Actually, Becoming Jane was based on fact until the point when they met again and decided to elope. We know that because of Jane's letters to Cassandra, many of which are still in existence. It is after Cass and Jane moved back in together that we don't know what happened, and the 'elopement' was a creation of the movie.
