Well, Angels and Demons is the first story I think...I dunno, my dad read it.
So I finished it. Yes, they did talk about the background on the Mona Lisa. The movie really was good, I just had to go into it, like you said, knowing that none of it was true. It really isn't a movie for new Christians or people who aren't sure about Christianity yet. Paul was incredibly scary. He had these super light blue contacts and his wig was bleach-blond (he had to have a wig because the bleach actually burned holes in his scalp o.o)
I mentioned this on my LJ but Paul's like...one of the most incredible actors. Watching DVC, I didn't see any of his previous characters. I just saw Silas, an extremely troubled and lost person with a tainted past. Sure, he was a bad guy and I didn't really feel sympathy for his character. But watching him was like, "o.o wow...." He just becomes his character, whoever he has to play, so well and so believably. It's really amazing. I wish I could contact him to let him know that.
Though, Idril...I had to say it out loud. It rarely fails, he has to be naked at least once in every movie, or at least close to naked. But in that scene, I really did cringe because it was the part where he was asking for forgiveness, using the thing-I-can't-remember-what-it's-called and the cat o' nine tails. That was kinda icky.
But anyway. He, along with everyone else, did very well. Though I do think that Sophie accepted a little too easily that she was the last remaining heir of Christ's bloodline....(*cough*bull*cough*)

I think it's just the two books that have Langdon in it, but I'm not sure. But they're sort of like television episodes, they don't really tie into eachother all that much. Anysnooch. I really don't remember well, but don't Silas' problems stem from his childhood? It's like, he never had the chance to be a decent, non-violent human being. I think his father killed his mother, and so Silas killed his father, and that started it all. I don't remember, though; and I agree with you on the fact that it's not for new Christians. I stopped reading Da Vinci Code because I felt like I was too young to be that secure in my faith (did i already say this?) and I actually started reading a similar book, one about the Templar knights, but stopped for the same reason. If anything, I think the experiences led me away from Catholicism, and deeper into nondenominational Christianity. I figured that scene would be disturbing, Ri; and I figured he'd be in the buff for it. I can never remember the name of that thing either. Cilce? Or something like that?

Yeah, a cilce. Looked it up on lovely Wikipedia, and it was usually a hairshirt or sackcloth worn as penance, though there was also the chain worn around the leg. It said that it has been exaggerated in the book and movie to break the skin and cause bleeding. It was just supposed to cause discomfort, generally as a reminder. But I think it was done that way to enunciate things, y'know?
And considering I haven't read the book, all I know about Silas' background is what was shown in the movie. He had done something as a young kid to wind up in a prison cell that you found out eventually was in a church or something. I'm going o assume that the "Something" he did was what you said with his parents. But anyway, when the Opus Dei member (Doc Ock's actor...) came in, the church people mentioned "stealing from the offering plate" or something, then started beating him up, and then Silas jumped out of his cell and killed the two men. After which, the Opus Dei called him an angel.
I think Silas was just a very needy character, from what I could tell. He saw his dad kill his mum, then was locked away for most of his life. I think I'd need people in an unhealthy manner after that. And then, he was shoved into the more gruesome side of Catholicism that people really get on when Catholics are brought into a conversation. But anyway. Needy, but very creepy.

Silas was a sad character. I own the book and I've seen the movie, but I don't remember much about the character himself. Other than he was just freaky, that is. lol.
Angels and Demons came first, and I could have sworn that they were the only two books in the series, although Dan Brown has written a ton of other AWESOME books. Not even joking, his books really are good, he's an awesome author.
... d**n it Ri, it's 11 and I got distracted by your signature and completely lost my train of thought. Way to go. xD Eh.

Not my fault you're easily distracted.
Oh, I forgot to mention here. New Line Cinema is stupid. They pushed the release date for Inkheart to Jan30'09! What the heck? So we have to wait a full freakin' year to see it unless they shape up and release it BEFORE I turn 18. *sigh*...

Yessss, very distracting sig Love it. All of those elements of Silas, the anger and the malevolence, the lost and misguided soul, were all really intense things that I thought Paul was particularly good at portraying. I remember when I saw the first picture of him on the set, all done up. I couldn't believe how much he looked the part. And that was just standing around on a set. Such a shame about Inkheart, but at least they didn't decide to scrap it or something. People are really doing stupid things because of this strike. Like, bringing Lost back for their eight episode season. My mom made a good point about it, she said they had really lost a lot of viewers last year, so maybe they're thinking more people will watch it if it's the only new thing on. I'm surprised New Line didn't really think that way. So many films right now are going to get shelved or, obviously, pushed to later releases. But anyway.

*nods* It be awesome.
Is lost on it's eighth season? *blinks* I could have sworn that show only came out, like, a couple years ago. Huh. ... And only eight episodes? Are those producers trying to screw themselves over? *mutters* It be a VERY good thing I don't watch that show. *nods*
Actually, the only ones on right now I really wanna watch are CSI, House, and Grey's Anatomy, but I've missed everything leading up to everything on all of them, so eh. What's the point?
