"Well you might have, actually. Fae are masters of disguise and illusion. Though knowing Vissiel the way I do, he'd need all his own magic to simply craft the most diabolical illusion possible while the amulet kept him disguised..." Lore trailed off, looking slightly pensive.
"Though I dare say I pity whatever traveler he's going to spring his trap on, it probably won't end well. The fae are nasty little creatures, but you're also hard pressed to find a more loyal traveling companion." he added, trailing off again at some rustling in the bushes before increasing his pace slightly. "We should keep our guard up, it seems that we're in snake country."

Meg glanced to the bushes on their right. He was right, there was something moving around in them. But not having much experience in the area they were in, she was hard pressed to discern what, even though her advanced sight could pick out the movements of the creature disturbing their treck. She never let her eyes leave the bushes as she continued the conversation.
"Well if this Fae is so superb at disguising himself and he has the amulet I seek, how exactly are we going to know him when we find him?"

"Well if we're lucky, he'll give himself away. His mannerisms are familiar to me." Lore explained, ushering Meg past the bushes. "We've traveled together a great many times, which is half the reason he tends to work alone for the most part. Most other fae think he's too soft on elves and such, but we have mutual respect for our ability to kill one another if need be." he continued, his ear picking up the soft hissing speech of the forest's resident snakes.
"We need to keep up the pace, the snake tribes are rather displeased with our intrusion."

Snakes, well that explained the sound she was picking up. The creatures scales barely made any sound at all as they brushed through the underbush, but even the smallest of sounds were quite clear to her ears. Now that she tuned into the area surrounding them more clearly she could also hear something that she knew should frighten her. Many many slow heartbeats surrounding them. Not just the one to their right. "Yes, I couldn't agree with you more," she mumbled speeding up her pace a little further.
She had had very little interaction with the cold blooded creatures during her life, most of it being spent in a laboratory. But even genetically enhanced super beings had to have some fears. And one of hers was the very creatures she knew surrounded them. "I might want to mention to you that I don't do so well with our slithering friends," she whispered low knowing his own elven hearing would pick up her almost silent words.

Lore looked pensive momentarily. "They're talking about us, but I can't quite make out the tribal dialect." he stated calmly, tapping Meg on the shoulder and waiting for her to stop. "Depending on the tribe, we may be closer to Vissiel than I thought. Be on your guard just in case, though."
Lore spoke in a strange hissing tone that carried off on the wind in an ethereal manner, which was met with a chorus of echoing noises of the similar variety. Finally, the rustling moved away as one large figure rose from the nearby shrubs.
The snake was at least thirty feet long, easily capable of eating a human with little effort and was reminiscent of the legendary basilisk. It's body was white with green markings down its back, and similar green markings on the inside of it's green hood. A Wolf's skull was placed at the crown of it's broad head like a crown as it hissed curiously, it's lime-green tongue glowing in the dark. Lore let out a sigh of relief, releasing tension that was apparent to none but himself.
"Oh, Hisaka, it's been too long. I was worried we'd stumbled into the hunting troop of another tribe." Lore explained, motioning to Megan. "This is my traveling companion, Megan."
Hisaka nodded his large head to her and chuckled in a low hiss. "Well be fortunate you found us then, Lore. We're trying to keep wayward Elves from ending up in one of Vissiel's traps. He paid well this time."
Lore chuckled. "We're actually looking for the good prince, he's borrowed an item from us that Miss Megan is interested in bartering for."
Hisaka rumbled pensively. "Alright, be on your way. Be careful of any clearings though, he's set himself up in one of them." he hissed, finally slithering off again into the dark.

They say sometimes fear can be a good thing, and for once in her life Meg had to agree with that statement. If not for the fact that she had been paralyzed with the emotion when faced with the giant serpent, she might very well have made a fool of herself. For her first and only instinct had been to run.
She realized that she was in luck for not following it though as the giant creature slithered back into the forest. "Lore, can we please not repeat that type of meeting?" she asked noticing just how shakey her own voice sounded, but failed miserably at steadying it.
With that she resumed walking down the path they were on but kept an even closer eye on her surroundings than before.

"I do suppose that was rather uncomfortable at first, wasn't it?" Lore chuckled politely. "We have little to fear from Hisaka, regardless of his size. They don't eat sentient food, it's frowned upon in the Venombone tribe." he explained quietly, stepping deftly over a fallen limb.
"If what Hisaka said is true, we've got a bit of distance to cover. Would you like to sleep a few hours? I'll keep watch, then we can keep moving."
